Palin: Tea Partiers "Have to Pick a Party"
Source: CBS News

In Arkansas, Former Alaska Governor Heaps Praise on Movement, But Says U.S. Has A Two-Party System

(CBS) In front of a crowd of Republican Party activists and the tea-party movement’s rank and file here on Tuesday night, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin seemed to put a damper on speculation that she might consider running for president in 2012 as a third-party candidate.

Asked what her advice would be to conservatives as the November elections approach, Palin first lavished praise on the Tea Party movement, calling it "a grand movement" and adding, "I love it because it’s all about the people."

But she quickly pivoted to the broader question of whether the Tea Party movement might successfully field its own candidates in national elections, and on that point she sounded far from convinced.

"Now the smart thing will be for independents who are such a part of this Tea Party movement to, I guess, kind of start picking a party," Palin said. "Which party reflects how that smaller, smarter government steps to be taken? Which party will best fit you? And then because the Tea Party movement is not a party, and we have a two-party system, they’re going to have to pick a party and run one or the other: ‘R’ or ‘D’."

2. Yikes, I actually agree with Sarah Palin
That if the teabaggers want to be effective, they need to pick a party.

And, that we have a two-party system. Any movement to a third party or independent slate will either be ineffective, or it will prove to be a spoiler with contrary consequences from what they'd like. Sort of a Nader or Perot effect.

Now, if I squint real hard ... nope, I still can't see Russia.

4. Looks like she wants tea party followers and GOP support. Either way I hope she gets the nod
to run against the President. I'd love Obama to have a landslide re-election.

25. If the t.b.ers have to choose, I hope they choose GOP
I mean, the Democratic party is a "big tent" and all that, but there just isn't a tent big enough, ya know?

31. Let 'em go Dem. The other side has gotten them to vote against thier own interest,
so what if they get thier intersts covered by us in spite of themselves. Actualy Joe the Plumber has it right: conservative is different than Republican.

34. the Tea Party is like a shell corporation set up to avoid responsibility for Bush
it will be reabsorbed by the GOP as soon as the tea partiers gnat-like short term memory is cleared of 2001-2009.

3. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Don't confuse coincidence with causality.

But yes, it is silly to start a third party movement at the top -- you have to grow it like anything else. You start at the grassroots: city councils, school boards, mayorships, and then you start moving up from there.

Of course, the Tea Partiers couldn't give a shit about real grassroots efforts, or any efforts for that matter. They want to whine and kick and scream to get their way. Hell, even my five year old knows better.

your nose, and you can pick your party, but you can't wipe your party on the back of the couch.

(No, that has nothing to do with anything, but neither does the Alaskan fishwife.)

of my Maine / BSH exotic , who weighs about 18 lbs , with his his arms wrapped round my chocolate point British shorthair which I got myself for Xmas - he's 4 months old now. So sweet - he's cream with brown ears, nose and tail.

Your cat looks great and the shorter hair more practical - I've got a chinchilla persian too which isn't quite as practical. :)

9. of course she's proud of them---they're all white sheet wearing racists just like she is
Independents are not a part of this movement---neo-cons are this movement.

Ron Paul's Tea Party Movement--the only legitimate "Tea Party" IMO--sprang from Libertarians, not from independents or disgruntled thugs who won't own that they're thugs. The racist pigs who turn out for their queen sow have never been and will never be Libertarians--they're too busy squealing and howling over their socialist programs of choice being cut out--like medicare. A true Libertarian would say "do away with medicare, too"--and that ain't about to come out of their doughy-bodied, diabetic, oveweight, high fructose corn syrup guzzling mouths.

13. They're trying to reign in the extremists
Which party would want them? I think the teabaggers can be a major headache for the republicans. They are splintering off from the republicans which is very good for us (just look at the NY congressional race). And Palin has helped make this happen.

14. Well she just threw the teabaggers under the bus. Way to go Sarah!
First we had teabaggers pulling out of the tea party convention.
Then the racists and birthers did show up and hijacked the convention.
Now Sarah tells the teabaggers they really have to be Republicans after all, confirming that she is about as "rogue" as John McCain.

Woo hoo! Let the games continue.

15. St. Sarah...you give me a "movement" alright
"calling it "a grand movement""

Ya...right...thanks for that St. Sarah the Mocker...

I'm heading for the bathroom.

From Urban Dictionary.
1. teabagger:
1) one who carries large bags of packaged tea for shipment.
2) a man that squats on top of a womens face and lowers his genitals into her mouth during sex, known as “teabagging”.
3) one who has a job or talent that is low in social status.
4) a person who is unaware that they have said or done something foolish, childlike, noobish, lame, or inconvenient.

Hey, she didn't say they had to go Republican. She said to pick a party! I vote they all join the Bull-Moose party. And the results of that would be the same as they were back in the 1912.

18. This is good because they'll pick the repubs and then they'll poison their party from
the inside out. Once they pick a party they won't be a movement anymore they'll just be a bunch of lackies for the repubs and they'll have to either be accomidated (and catered to) or be ignored entirely by the party elite the way the dems did the liberals for the last few decades since Vietnam.

and it always had a very predictable end, which was the re-absorption of the Phony Teabagger "movement" into the Republic Party.

They are just far, far, far to the right of the "moderate" republican (who is far to the right of a Reagan Republican, who is far to the right of a Nixon Republican.)

27. A real 3rd party could be formed, but it will ONLY happen
when one of the two main parties we have now splits. It won't come from the ground up. If the GOP actually split ... if a bunch of Republicans already in Congress and GOP governors left the party and formed their own, then you could see the start of a 3rd party.

Look at the only presidential election where a 3rd party candidate got more votes than one of the major party candidates. 1912. Roosevelt bolted from the GOP and ran as a 3rd party and he came in 2nd ahead of the R candidate, Taft. He only really did as well as he did because he'd been a prominent member of one of the major parties. Problem was his party was basically formed for the purpose of him running in that election so it didn't really last.

"Grand movement?" The cost of admission a whopping $ 500.00 a head at the door. Sounds like a "half-a-grand movement."
