At Bush-Cheney Alumni Reunion, Bush Says Jimmy Carter’s Criticisms Made His Life ‘Miserable’

The first official reunion of the Bush-Cheney Alumni Association kicked off in Washington, DC today. The “closed-door” event was supposed to be Bush and Cheney’s first joint appearance together since leaving office, but the former vice president had to skip the festivities because of recent health problems.

At the breakfast today (view a picture of the gathering here), Bush talked about his upcoming memoir, joking, “This is going to come as quite a shock to people up here that I can write a book, much less read one.” He also said that Cheney was “feeling well” and “has a fierce constitution,” and according to attendee Gary Karr, Bush “gave an eloquent defense of the freedom agenda.” Bush also explained why he — unlike Cheney — has been relatively quiet about the job President Obama is doing:

I have no desire to see myself on television. I don’t want to be a panel of formers instructing the currents on what to do. … I’m trying to regain a sense of anonymity. I didn’t like it when a certain former president — and it wasn’t 41 or 42 — made my life miserable.

29. Doesn't matter who Bush is or isn't.
As a recovered drug and alcohol addict myself, it's disgusting to see DU'ers use potential relapses as political tools. And by potential, I mean the cover of the National Enquirer. It's alarming how quickly DU'ers run with stories from trash publications like that.

You're really going to make fun of a person who went through recovery? Really? And even if he has relapsed, how is is that at ALL something to make fun of someone for?

31. "Take the high road" again? No fucking thanks!
Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 02:49 PM by Occulus
He was a coke-sniffing inherited-wealth fratboy drunk whose rehab most certainly didn't work, but who was nonetheless put in the most powerful driver's seat in the world. While there, he destroyed one economy, bombed one nation to splinters, was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and the displacement of at least a million, and very likely permanently tarnished our national reputation on the world stage.

Moreover, he was a fucking bully whose "my way or the highway" attitude and genetically ingrained xenophobia filtered down to the rank-and-file of his entire political party, for which we will be paying the social price for at least a generation. In addition, he put into place policies putting limits on our freedoms that will probably never be rescinded short of a new American Revolution.

Defend his drink-addled ass if you like, but I for one am sick and fucking tired of "being better than them", "taking the high road", and "not stooping to their level". Ignoring bullies like Bush and his ilk will only make them come back over and over again, getting worse and worse each time, until finally someone or something snaps, at which point there will be hell to pay on both sides.

So, no, I will not refrain from using each and every last, least, littlest fault of Bush or any other Republican against them in the political arena, even if it means I have to make shit up, because that sort of treatment is the only thing bullies like them ever understand. As I said in another post, I want the entire Republican Party to be metaphorically clocked in the mouth so hard they come up spitting blood and teeth, and if they happen to fall over on their side, I most certainly want to be the first one in line to kick them while they're down.

They don't deserve any apology from us except "I'm sorry you're offended, but...", and anyone who doesn't think it's appropriate can sit down, shut up, and get the fuck out of the way. THAT'S how you deal with these creeps. You don't be nice. You don't take the high road. You don't try to be high-handed. You cut. You cut them, utterly. Cut them down with your words, your tactics, and yes, even your lies. Just cut them to pieces, using any and all means necessary. If you have regrets later, that's later, and nobody goes through life without a few of those.

If you think I'm wrong, I'm sorry for you, because they'll only be back again and again until we deal with them the way bullies deserve to be treated. And Mr. "Former" Coke Addict Drunkard Warmonger Walking Economic Disaster Authoritarian Constitution Ass-wiper Bush fucking deserves it.

49. +4 ... and also ... my POEM to BUSH
When he left office I was inspired to write what I'd like to say to him face to face:

I’d tell you to go fuck yourself
But that is much too kind
Because if you could perform that feat
You’d take pleasure in your behind

I’d like to say eat shit and die
But you deserve much more
You should suffer all the grief and pain
Of your misbegotten war

Though I can never make you feel
Or think, or understand
I’ll take solace when you hear your name
Cursed throughout the land

From inside a lonely prison cell
Dark and bare and cold
Where every day you pay for your crimes
Till you’re sick, heartbroken, and old

And when you finally leave the earth
You fucked over oh so well
If there is a God and afterlife
You’re going straight to hell.

Sorry to say this is probably what at least some of us warriors will HAVE TO do.

Look, this is an "army" of ours, in one respect. There are many divisions within it. There are certainly some who want to try the charm offensive or the "rise-above-it" approach to dealing with the enemy. And make no mistake, they ARE our enemy. And bush was at the head.

But there are other divisions in that same "army" that have to do the hard work, the open combat, the brass-knuckle approach. The only approach bullies understand. The approach that DOESN'T believe in taking a feather-duster into a gunfight. The sad truth is that there is indeed only one way to deal with bullies and that is to bully them back - harder. It's the only thing they understand.

And yes. bush deserves it. Let him reap what he's sown. Maybe SOMEBODY on that side will take a lesson from it. At the very least, they'll come to understand that our side isn't a bunch of pushovers and if they try to smack us around, they're gonna get smacked back - HARDER.

69. I'm glad for your recovery, but Bush the Lesser is a loathsome cockroach...
I never imagined I could hate another president as much as I hated Richard M. Nixon. Then along came George W. Bush, and to my gut-wrenching astonishment he was so evil that he made Nixon look like a statesman.

Please do not mistake anything bad that is said about Bush as being a reflection on you. Put your ego and personal issues aside.

There was ample evidence if one cared to look for it that while in office Bush either fell off the wagon on a consistent basis or was showing the effects of long term substance abuse on his personality and brain, just as there was evidence that Reagan had Alzheimer's disease while in office.

It's not about you. It's about the unbelievable damage Bush and his henchmen wrought upon our Nation, our Constitution, and our Bill of Rights.

Hekate

Honorable men and women who probably strived for their unique positions within the SS, only to get detailed to protect the most ignorant heinous piece of shit in Texas. What a waste of their lives. Hopefully they're natural born Tea-baggers and can weather the stain of being on the Shrub detail.

Good thing his SS detail is covering for him, because if it was me, I'd let Dumbya take the bullet. No way in hell I could take one for that jerk off.

47. Bush the Least never gave a rat's ass about what Jimmy Carter thought or said, anymore
than he cared about the disenfranchised voters of Florida, the abandoned, drowning Americans of New Orleans, the people of Iraq he killed in a war based on lies or the rest of Earth, foe or friend, adversary or ally.

Bush is coming out with this bullshit as a cover for Torquemada Cheney's; limelight public criticism of President Obama, while also defending the indefensible acts of torture and war crimes.

This is for Cheney, and the only reason Bush is protecting Cheney is as a means to further protect his own gross negligence, corruption, incompetence and misconduct, he's afraid that if Cheney goes down, he will.

As for Jimmy Carter.:patriot:

63. Damn it, America if Jimmy Carter isn't your favorite president NOW
you still deserve Bush. (Carter has always been my favorite-I remember that foggy creepy night in 1980 when I was a few months too young to vote and the Reagan menace that ruined our country was swept in-never been the same)

64. “This is going to come as quite a shock to people up here that I can write a book"
True enough. It also comes as quite a shock that he would mention Darth and "constitution" in the same sentence.

Edited on Sat Feb-27-10 02:09 AM by TheWatcher
If this country still had a population and a government with a backbone, and ANY kind of adherence to the rule of law, you would be Indicted, given DUE PROCESS, Convicted, Incarcerated, and at a determined date, EXECUTED for Treason, and the numerous high crimes you have committed.

Your life is "miserable." :nopity:

FUCK YOU.

Just be happy you live in such a fucked up world, you piece of shit.

It's the only reason you're still alive.

75. What He Should Have Done
Bush needs to learn to be brutally honest and admit his part for the transgressions that he did. Like every alcoholic, he never did the steps and he missed out on true recovery.

If he had works the steps, we would have never been led to the illegal war in Iraq. True recovery brings peace, hope, freedom, love.

As a recovered alcoholic with over 15 months of soberity, I choose the progressive path because the subject political philosphy agrees with the principle of the program.

He is the example why people need to do the steps and what becomes a person when they do not do the program.

This whole nation would have been better if George Bush went to AA meeting many years ago and stated "My name is George Bush and I am alcoholic". And did the steps and worked a good program, this country would be much greater shape.
