Osama bin Laden 'living in luxury in Iran'
Source: UK telegraph

Osama bin Laden, the world's most wanted man, is living in the lap of luxury in an apartment in Iran and spends his time falconing, according to a new documentary.

Far from huddling in a cave in Afghanistan fearing for his life, the al-Qaeda leader has been enjoying the protection of Iran's Revolutionary Guard with his wife and children since 2003, the film Feathered Cocaine asserts.

The documentary features Alan Parrot, one of the world's foremost falconers, who claims that bin Laden, an avid falcon hunter, has been taking part in the sport relatively freely in Teheran, Fox News reports.

...

Mr Parrot told Fox News that the warlord, who supplies the falcon camps bin Laden visits on hunting forays, agreed to talk only because one of Mr Parrot's men had saved his life.

"This was the repayment," Mr Parrot said. "He was asked to talk. He wasn't happy about it."

...

Parrot's story is supported in the documentary by former CIA agent Robert Baer, an outspoken critic of US policy in the Middle East on whom the film Syriana is based.

1. Bullshit. As much as I detest the leadership in Iran, there is no way they would give bin laden
that type of accomodation to bin laden

The most obvious thing is the division between Shia and Sunni

The telegraph has not been the most reliable source for accuracy

19. Shia and Sunni yes, but it makes me wonder
how strong the common bond of anti-Americanism is. Religious convictions are tossed aside all the time for convenience, efficiency, and other reasons. Bin Laden also had millions of dollars to his name, the last I heard. That much currency is easily enough to make most people forget they ever belonged to a religion.

41. go to Madinat as-Sadr for the answer to this question
Edited on Wed May-05-10 08:05 PM by Alamuti Lotus
Hujjatulmahdi Sayyid Muqtada as-Sadr sends convoys of fighters and supplies to aid the resistance in al-Fallujah, "al-Qai'dah in Iraq" blows up markets in Sadr City. There's an answer to how well the latter are willing to get along with Shiites. The Islamic Republic was going to invade Afghanistan and fight the Taliban long before that was the cool thing to do.

45. don't have a link right off hand..
I'm not on my regular computer at the moment, but I can describe the incident. Around 1998 I believe; Iran had a consulate and several ambassadors with the Northern Alliance capital of Mazar-i-Sharif to press the rights of the Hazara and the various warlords -- Karem Kalili, Hekmatyar, Ismail Khan, etc -- they were backing at the time. The Taliban responded by invading Mazar-i-Sharif, executing all of the diplomats and a reporter after seizing the Iranian consulate, and carried out executions of all the Shiites (Hazaras) in the city. Iran massed almost 100,000 fighters on the border and nearly invaded but was disuaded by the US/UN; the former were busy trying to negotiate oil contracts with Mullah Omar and could not risk the Emirate being overthrown at that time--good thing that worked out so well for all indeed.

46. it is not well publicized, but the Sheikh also has a rabid personal distaste for Shiites
Edited on Thu May-06-10 04:05 AM by Alamuti Lotus
Ussamah is not as vocal about the matter as Zarqawi and Zawahiri are/were, however his actions reveal enough. Currently he particularly despises Lebanese Hizbu'llah Secretary General Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah, possibly out of jealousy for how effective Hizbu'llah is at combating the zionists while "al-Qai'dah" seems impotent in that regard. Long before this, his first actions as commander of what had just turned into "al-Qai'dah" following the martyrdom of Sheikh Abdallah Azzam and the Russian withdrawal from Afghanistan was acting as a purely mercenary force for the Pakistani military in attacking the Ismaili Shiites of Nuristan and Baltistan (parts of Kashmir and the northern provinces of Pakistan/Afghan border areas).

Bin Laden's fortune was much exagerrated; it is estimated that the vast majority of it was depleted following his sudden departure from the Sudan.

All notions of cooperation between salafists/"al-Qai'dah" and the Islamic Republic are so ridiculous as to immediately discredit those who would propagate such obvious lies.

8. I call bullshit, and here's the tell:
"Mr Parrot told Fox News that...."

Do ya suppose Fox News might have any preference on whether the United States invades Iran looking for bin Laden? By their account, if Obama doesn't invade, he's a weak, soft coward who doesn't care about the existential threat of terrorism. On the other hand, if he were to invade, he would be solely responsible for the fiasco and subsequent quagmire.

See, it's win-win for Fox!

12. Ahmadinejad: 'Osama bin Laden is living in Washington'
"Rest assured that he's in Washington. I think there's a high chance he's there," the Iranian leader told ABC television in an interview.

Without backing up the claim, the Iranian leader said he had "heard" that bin Laden was in the US capital.

"Yes, I did. He's there. Because he was a previous partner of Mr. Bush," he said referring to former President George W. Bush.

"They were colleagues, in fact, in the old days. You know that. They were in the oil business together. They worked together. Mr bin Laden never co-operated with Iran but he co-operated with Mr. Bush," Mr Ahmadinejad said.

OBL died years ago,(from kidney failure) If he was anywhere living luxury it would be with his business partners, the bush cartel. He is pulled out of the grave anytime they need to justify their war on people who have done nothing to us. cheney said there is NO EVIDENCE linking OBL too 911. The FBI said there was NO EVIDENCE linking OBL to 911. He has never been charged with 911 by the FBI, he WAS charged in the Cole bombing. Does anybody ever read or research or do we just go running everytime there's a new bogeyman scare? Jus' plain Stoopid. Wanna buy a bridge?

18. bin Laden has spoken out against Iran many times.
Bin Ladin is a wahabbi, and wahabbi's see Shia Islam as an evil twisting of their faith (hence the occasionally reported bombing of Shiite pilgrims in Iraq). Iran has also been fighting a low level insurgency in Balochistan for years, where the Sunni Baloch majority want to secede and form a new nation. The Baloch peoples span the Iranian/Pakistani border, want to take land from both nations, and are known to have strong ties to both the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

There is no way that the Iranian government would permit him to live in Tehran. He's an enemy of their government.

If there is real evidence, then present it. Iran and the Taliban are not aligned, they are opposed. This stinks to high heaven as more propaganda designed to rile the wingnut fringes into demanding or supporting the idiot move of an attack on Iran.

28. Ehhhh maybe that's the case
but more likely it's not. Bin Laden is much more likely to be hanging out with our great buddies in Pakistan - most likely Karachi or somewhere in the NWFP where there are porous borders. I'm sure there are enough ISI guys willing to protect him - from Zardari or whomever else.

Or he's dead.

Both are more likely than hangin' out in Iran. While A-jad is nuts and I'm sure he'd get along great with OBL, that whole Sunni Shiite split is big - and he knows he'd get his ass bombed if it were confirmed he's holding OBL of all people. A-jad is crazy, but I think if he's going to risk getting bombed, it's for having nukes...not harboring the most wanted terrorist in the world!
