Officials: Shahzad 'Nervous' After Arrest, but 'Hasn't Stopped Talking Since'
Source: ABC News

Authorities say Interrogation of Times Square Bomb Suspect Continues

The Times Square bombing suspect Faisal Shahzad was "extremely nervous" when U.S. agents bordered the plane to arrest him Monday night, but "hasn't stopped talking" since, law enforcement authorities told ABC News.

Shahzad's first appearance in court was postponed for a second day as FBI interrogators continue to question him about the attempted attack and his ties to Taliban groups in Pakistan.

Shahzad has admitted to receiving bomb-making training and to loading a car with explosives and driving it into Times Square, say U.S. authorities, and is providing valuable information that is helping officials round up possible accomplices.

...

Shahzad, whose father was a high-ranking officer in the Pakistani Air Force, moved to the United States in 1998. Married with two daughters, he worked as a financial analyst and lived in Connecticut.

...

In 2009, Shahzad's life began unraveling. He had been working as a junior financial analyst in the Stamford, Connecticut office of the Affinion Group, an international marketing firm, But in May he left his job, abandoned his $200,000 home to foreclosure and returned to Pakistan.

Federal officials alleged that while in Pakistan he learned bomb-making with the Taliban and received money for his plot.

15. He's not one of the hardcore ones
that they picked up on the Afghan battlefield. If you'd have put this guy into a real war situation, chances are, he'd have shot himself in the foot. Same goes for the Christmas Underpants Bomber, who merely toasted his chestnuts that day.

2. they'd only leak this info if they had a strategy . . to shame Taliban, to scare them?
It seems like they're effeminizing him (according to traditional Pakistani Muslim culture) with the 'nervous,' 'talkative' stuff. OTOH, by saying he's spilling the beans on everything might get accomplices to rush to cover tracks and perhaps get sloppy in the process.

Or maybe they want to reassure the international public that we're not torturing the guy.

I just wouldn't think interrogators would speak this freely without an agenda.

3. I don't know if the guy is talking "a lot" or not, but...
I'm fairly certain they're saying publicly that the guy is spilling his guts in order to flush out more rats and to make the rest real nervous. It's neither here nor there regarding the case if we know that the guy is talking. There is an ulterior motive to putting out in the media that he's spilling his guts. I wonder what they're trying to accomplish.

4. The idiot probably realizes how bad he fucked up
and that he'll never see his wife and kids, which is fine as far as I'm concerned - attempting to inflict mass civilian casualties deserves the harshest punishment possible.

8. He obviously didn't pay attention in class.
Seems like halfed-assery wouldn't really be the Taliban's bag...this guy was half-assed.

I'm still leaning toward lone-wolf. Maybe with a small bit of assistance...but mostly lone wolf. The kind of guy who's pissed off and talks to the real McCoy. They give him a little and then assume he will cause some damage on his lonesome.

Just a guess.

Check out the ABC link. That is how it is written.

What did they border it with? Lace? Velvet ribbon?

Don't know whether to laugh or cry. I am guessing that ABC outsources journalism work to non English speaking countries now.

14. You know, that bothers me, too!
It seems that every day the persons who "write" the news do not know English grammar or spelling.
Maybe it IS outsourced, as you say. It makes the news source look awfully dumb, though.

19. Here's the thing that concerns me
we have a half-assed attempt to execute a bombing; the perpetrator is caught and starts singing like a canary; we focus on that and congratulate ourselves for the great detective work. Then something more sophisticated happens somewhere else.
