Lord & Taylor Stores Leave Florida
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 08:55 PM by guajira
More of B* economy. More people out of work.

snippet:
In another sign of the department store industry's struggles to survive, Lord & Taylor announced Wednesday that it intends to close all of its stores in Florida, as well as 25 others across the country.

The move is part of Lord & Taylor's efforts to reposition itself as an upscale fashion retailer, focusing on its core markets in the Northeast and Midwest.

Florida is the state most dramatically affected by Lord & Taylor's plans, with seven of the 32 stores the chain intends to close. The locations include Aventura Mall, Dadeland Mall, Town Center at Boca Raton and the Mall at Wellington Green in Palm Beach County. The other stores are in Orlando and Tampa, plus a store at the Fashion Mall in Plantation that had already been scheduled to close Sunday.

The Lord & Taylor stores will remain open and operate as normal, until plans are made to sell the real estate either to another retailer or back to the mall owners.

2. This
was one of the first signs of deflation in Japan. The upscale stores (retail) were being undersold by others. Moreover the demand of the middle class is waning as the jobs evaporate to India and China, of which the latter floods our markets with cheap crap to put out of business more good retailers. It's going to get alot worse before it gets any better.

3. Hmmm.. they are thinking of leaving Pittsburgh too!
so the North East ain't so grand either for them.

They sell clothes for the upscale types and in rough economic times that doesn't work.

The city of Pittsburgh is trying to figure out how to keep them...not sure why but I bet they made them some sweetheart tax deal and now the city will be left holding the bag....typical

7. Since 1886.
Engraved in the stone on the Fifth Ave. building, it says 1886.

I hope they survive.
