White House to Appeal Ruling Against Drilling Ban
Source: AP

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says the White House intends to immediately appeal a federal judge's ruling against a moratorium on new deepwater drilling.

A New Orleans judge on Tuesday blocked the six-month ban imposed in the wake of the Gulf oil spill, saying the Interior Department had failed to provide adequate reasons for it.

Gibbs defended the moratorium, promising an immediate appeal to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Gibbs said President Barack Obama believes strongly that drilling at such depths does not make any sense and puts the safety of workers "at a danger that the president does not believe we can afford."

2. Failed to provide adequate reasons for it?
That judge needs to look outside his window at the wetlands and the wildlife. Jeez does he like the ooze of tar balls and oily birds?

6. Hope they won't be able to buy their way out of it forever. Somehow, justice must prevail.
We've been shown those who can grab power through treachery are NEVER sated. They must be blocked, if life is to endure.

Well, Judge Martin Feldman owns a fair amount of oil/gas company stock. This drilling moratorium is hurting him personally.

13. Moratorium stay in place for time being
"The administration's appeal of the ruling seems likely to ensure that the http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/22/obama-will-appeal-judges_n_621250.html">moratorium will stay in place for the time being -- so long as it requests a stay (which appears likely to happen). Indeed, it is not beyond the realm of reason that the appeals process could be dragged out at least until the administration is satisfied that the 33 wells where drilling has been put on halt, are sufficiently safe."
