Obama, Democrats prepare for campaign with iPad, iPhone apps
Source: afp

AFP - US President Barack Obama's political arm, Organizing for America, and the Democratic Party launched iPhone and iPad applications on Thursday as they gear up for the November elections.

Josh Hendler, technology director for the Democratic National Committee, said the free applications for the Apple devices will "help supporters stay connected and get involved" in the upcoming vote.
...
"These features are a key part of our strategy to connect with voters, supporters, and volunteers around our Vote 2010 campaign, which focuses on turning out first-time 2008 voters in support of the president's allies in House, Senate, and governor?s races this fall," Hendler said.

The separate Democratic Party mobile application is the party's first and the iPad application is the first ever by a US political party, he said.

3. I'm not sure political candidates of any stripe want to associate themselves with the poor.

That certainly is the impression i have gotten at Democratic Party events (I can't imagine the Republicans are anything but worse.)

You better be hip or rich and preferably both.

5. Do you always insult your prospective voters?
Does it work well?

6. There is a serious disconnect in this country between the governed and the governers.
I don't see special apps on high priced toys of the rich closing that disconnect gap.

It makes Democrats look out of touch with people who can barly afford a phone.

7. There are 45 million iPhones and iPod Touches in circulation.
I don't know how many iPads.

45 million of anything is still 45 million. This isn't tone-deafness or class insensitivity, it's a tool to get Democrats elected. Which clearly isn't popular upthread. :eyes:

9. I just got an iPad and I have two iPhones and a third one on the way.
And I'm typing this on a Macbook Air. I love macs. My employees use them too. I'm thrilled at Apple's success, although I've never owned any Apple stock.

It's extremely important for the Democrats to be working with the most imaginative, technologically advanced people in the country because those people can provide real influence on the internet and know how to organize and network.

This is not about rich versus poor. It's about Democrats gaining an upper hand using intelligent people who are on top of modern technology. Remember, the rethugs gain most of their votes from rural people. They have to use lies and manipulation to fool their base into voting for them, and the way to reach those people is through conventional television, cable, and radio. Don't fault our guys for using the most advanced and creative mechanisms to keep us in charge. It's our only chance!

10. Or they could just honor their campaign promises...

Cool I-Phones and I-Pads won't make up for a long and well-established pattern of lying to and shitting on their base.

"This is not about rich versus poor."

Yes it is. Very much so. That's at the very core of what it is about.
