FALLUJA, Iraq (Reuters) - U.S. forces fought running battles with insurgents in the Iraqi town of Falluja on Friday and eight civilians were killed, including three children, and 25 were wounded, a hospital official said.

Issam Mohammed, a doctor at the main Falluja hospital, said the wounded also included women and old people.

Reuters television footage showed some of the casualties being treated at hospital. A boy wounded in the head screamed in pain as doctors bandaged him.

Several explosions, apparently from mortar bombs fired by guerrillas, echoed through the streets, which were deserted apart from ambulances and U.S. military vehicles.

US troops clash with Iraq rebels

Heavy fighting between US soldiers and Iraqi insurgents in the central city of Falluja has resulted in casualties.
Four people were killed and two were wounded, hospital sources told the AFP news agency.
The shooting broke out when US Marines moved into the centre of the city, according to witnesses.
US troops rarely venture into Falluja, a town located within the "Sunni triangle" - the traditional power base of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

6. I heard the BBCreport on NPR...They are keeping reporters away!
The troops went to conduct house searches and got some heavy resistance form the town's residents. Soon after the gunfire started the reporters were not allowed near the scene.

Hey georgie* how many civilians did you kill today? :grr:

7. You have to understand...
Those kids were out throwing flowers and hoping to kiss American soldiers and the rebels killed them. Don't worry they're mopping up those terrorists as we speak. Nothing to see here move on, move on.

8. The "uptick in violence" predicted by Sanchez & Co.
Keep in mind there will be a corresponding "downtick" on July 1st. Really.
