Lino Lakes (MN) approves English-only ordinance
Source: StarTribune.com

A controversial ordinance barring the use of city money to provide translation of many city documents or to translate public meetings passed the Lino Lakes City Council on Monday night by a vote of 4-1. The northeast Twin Cities suburb became the first Minnesota city to pass such an ordinance.

It is said to be a purely economic decision, but to me it says "Colored people stay away."

3. Lino Lakes is in Michele Bachmann's district.
This is one of the reasons it's so hard to knock her out of office. Lino Lakes is also a backwater exurb of the Twin Cities. Its city council is packed with morons, and there are only a few hispanics living in the town, and nobody else who doesn't speak English. They passed this idiotic ordinance without any reason. They've never had to do anything in any other language. It's a pure jingoistic showpiece.

93+% white. McMansion Central.

5. I used to live close to there. It's about 95%+ white
and far more than that English speaking. I have no idea what threat they are seeing. Mpls/St Paul isn't all that non-English overall, although there are some pockets of Somali and Hmong concentration as well as Spanish, but those areas are concentrated in areas of St Paul proper and immediately outside, not even close to Lino Lakes.
