Another GOP lead filibuster campaign has handed a defeat to job creation measures, on July 29. Members' of the Republican party cited that passage of the Small Business Lending bill, would not do enough assist the United States economy.

"The small-business lending bill contains many positive provisions, yet I do not believe that any member in this chamber truly believes that this bill will do enough to solve our job creation problems," said Sen. Orin Hatch (R-UT). "This is because it ignores the main problems afflicting the economy and preventing the kind of job creation that we need right now. The bill before us misses the boat", noted in AOL Politics Daily.

Representative Bernie Sanders calls on Congress to Stay in Session to Help the 99ers

On the "The Ed Show" on July 29, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stated he would be willing stay in session Congress, until a bill is enacted for the 99ers. Congress is scheduled to take another Congressional Recess period, until after September 6, 2010. As reported by host Schultz, up to 4 Million 99ers or Exhaustees have been without any unemployment benefits, since April.

1. It is completely assinine
that something can "fail" 58-42. That is all.

8. Dems + Lieberman + Sanders = only 59
We still have to get ONE republican to get to 60.

10. None really. 59 Dems for it; 41 Repubs against but then Reid switches to No so he can bring it
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 11:50 AM by Pirate Smile
back up for a vote again if he wanted. If Reid was registered as a yes then he couldn't call for the vote again.

This was a strictly partisan vote - 59-41. We only have 59 now - and that includes Nelson, Lieberman, Lincoln, etc.

edit to clarify - I'm calling everyone who caucuses with the Dems a Dem so that includes Lieberman & Sanders, of course.

3. The 58-42 vote was a cloture vote on an amendment....
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 11:44 AM by Tx4obama
Cloture Motion (Motion to Invoke Cloture on the Reid-Baucus-Landrieu Amdt. No. 4519 to H.R. 5297 (H.R. 5297 is the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act of 2010)
Reid (D-NV) voted 'no' ... so I suspect there is a reason it failed.
The last time Reid voted no on a bill the dems wanted it was so that it could be brought to the floor again or changed or something like that.
Let's see what happens next.

6. I believe that's procedure.
If a bill will not pass cloture, then the Majority Leader votes accordingly.

13. Funny. Local TVnews in Boston always seems to emphasize Brown's pro-human votes, mentioning him by
name, as in "Senator Brown voted with the Democrats." When he votes with the rest of the thugs, we just hear things like "58-42. instead of "Senator Brown voted with the Republicans and against extending unemployment benefits for those who lost their jobs first in this fucking Republican greed created "recession" and therefore have been hurt most by it."

Lord forgive me, but I hate Republican controlled media.

17. I am with you! Exactly how they play it. Or they don't even bother
to remind us that Brown exists, as if the election of Brown to replace Kennedy was not the most stupid thing to happen in Massachusetts and the nation since Bush was "selected" in 2000.
