Tea party activists rally on Arizona-Mexico border

HEREFORD, Ariz. (AP) -- Tea party activists are gathering along a remote stretch of the Arizona-Mexico border about 70 miles west of Nogales.

They're rallying Sunday on a private ranch in support of Arizona's controversial immigration law. A judge has put much of the law on hold.

The rally is being held near a stretch of the wall made of 15-foot steel posts set closely together to prevent people from crossing the border. People have attached flags with messages about curbing illegal immigration to the posts.

A sound system had not yet been set up Sunday morning. U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Hayworth, who is challenging John McCain in the Republican primary, was scheduled to speak, along with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

26. They wouldn't be welcome here in New Mexico. At least not on THAT side of the state.
Most of our derpulous wackjobs are in the southeast chunk of the state, near the oilfields and the TX border. Surprise, suprise, right?

informatively,

of what is good and just and right in the world don't simply melt into the earth...like in the Movie Ghost. They are evil in my mind and I am glad they are on the US side of the Border, I have friends in Mexico and I wouldn't wish those ass hats on anyone! Hope it is 120 degrees in the shade where they are, they may as well get used to it.

4. Curious, no mention is made of turnout . . .
Can a few dozen people truly "rally"?

70 miles "west of Nogales"? That's some hard land, especially in Nogales. It's 97 degrees there and drier than dust.

Really.

As someone above asks, can a few dozen people in the middle of nowhere be a "rally"? How many were white? How many were male? Did they show each other how big their guns were?

37. Governor Brewer specifically asked the Arizona tribes to get
behind the new law.

Most of them, perhaps all of them, and particularly the Navajo who are the largest federally recognized tribe with something over 250,000 members, pointedly and publicly refused.

In essence they stated that this law would result in racial profiling, and that native Americans looked like Hispanics. Therefore the law would in effect be used against them too.

The MSM seems not to have covered this detail.

40. I remember seeing stories on the tribes opposing the law
One tribal leader suggested that maybe they should stop white people traveling through the reservation and check THEIR papers.

Native American tribes continue to suffer from discrimination. They really GET what's going on, from their own experience.

21. Teabaggers lost in Arizona!!!!!!
Hereford is approximately 70-miles East of Nogales not West, a few miles from the Mexican Border with the nearest small border town being Naco. Even though the distance from Heredford to Naco is close, The Teabaggers would have to be really stupid to consider walking from Hereford to Naco during the summer temperatures and the monsoons. The idiot Phoenix Republican politicos couldn't find Hereford without their personal handlers and the only time we see them in Southern Arizona is during their campaign season.

HEREFORD, Ariz. (AP) — Tea party groups converged on a remote section of the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday to show support for Arizona's controversial immigration law and hear from more than a dozen conservative speakers, many of them candidates running for office in crowded Republican primaries.

Several speaking to the crowd of more than 400 demanded Congress and President Barack Obama devote more resources to increase border security in remote areas like the site of Sunday's demonstration south of Tucson.

"We are going to force them to do it, because if they don't, we will not stop screaming," said former state Sen. Pam Gorman, one of 10 Republicans vying for an open congressional seat in north Phoenix. Gorman carried a handgun in a holster slung over her shoulder as she mingled with demonstrators.

~snip~
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, known for his tough enforcement of immigration laws in Arizona's most populous county, said more law enforcement officials should adopt his hard-line stance to prevent illegal immigrants from settling in after they've successfully crossed the border.

"Don't just say border enforcement, that's a cop-out," he said. "Let's say lock them up in the interior."

HEREFORD, Ariz. — Tea party groups converged on a remote section of the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday to show support for Arizona's controversial immigration law and hear from more than a dozen conservative speakers, many of them candidates running for office in crowded Republican primaries.

Several speaking to the crowd of more than 400 demanded Congress and President Barack Obama devote more resources to increase border security in remote areas like the site of Sunday's demonstration southeast of Tucson.

* * *

A federal judge last month delayed the most contentious provisions of Arizona's law, including a section that would require officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws if they have "reasonable suspicion" that the person is in the country illegally.

49. Careful, perhaps.
That is, if you've actually been posting for that long.
Neither your hidden profile nor your negligible post count support your claim.

No one has disputed that they have the right to display their racism. Certainly not the Canadian poster that you responded to.

Their racism is wrong. It has been suggested that the Cartels might not be as concerned over their rights as you are.

I suppose the poster might also have hope that they stray over the "line" into Mexican territory, and that the exercise of that American right might not be honored by the Mexican authorities, despite the insularity these wretched "citizens" think they're entitled to.

I don't believe that you're incapable of deciphering the poster's intent. Any more than I believe I'm wrong in deciphering yours.

Picking a nit to deflect criticism is, most often, the mark of an apologist.
