Drudge: VT GOP Chair Calls on Dean to Open Record To Public...
VT GOP Chair Calls on Dean to Open Record To Public...

Thu Jul 31 2003 15:43:44 ET

Montpelier, VT - Vermont Republican Party Chairman Jim Barnett today called on former Governor and presidential candidate Howard Dean to open his gubernatorial record to public scrutiny. Dean has sealed his papers for a decade.

"If Howard Dean plans to run on his record in Vermont, he needs to share that record with the public" said Barnett. "The American people should not just have to take his word for it."

13. too easy ...
Dean should respond thusly:

"I agree and I promise to release my record to the public just as soon as George W. Bush releases his record."

Game. Set. Match.

3. Governors can have their records
Edited on Thu Jul-31-03 06:34 PM by LibertyChick
sealed, usually for less than 6 years. Dean wanted his sealed for 20.

He negotiated down to ten.

Chimp pulled something similar, something with having his stuff placed in his old man's prez library (not sure on the finer points of this Chimp junk).

Anyone running for prez, imho, should have their records open, so there is the information there, and a fair playing field.

edit:typo

what's in pops, chimps, Reagan's, Nixon files...However, the MOST impt files I'd settle for was the bushies..like father, like son..There's definitely some interesting info contained and locked--or did they burn everything!!

12. make sense to me...
I kinda agree; but everyone should have to. Not sure why they get the records sealed in the first place. Full disclosure make perfect sense.

17. this could be a great issue for Dean
if only he'd seize it with both hands: let the sun shine in. open up government records. i mean, sh*t, there are sealed records going back to the JFK assassination. it's time to let them see the light of day. the JFK fans would probably go ape if Dean promised this, and made it a campaign issue. it'd play even better because one of W's first acts was to keep sealed, records from the Reagan administration - that might have cast a bad light on Poppy.

19. IMHO, this will backfire on Bush*
Edited on Thu Jul-31-03 09:26 PM by w4rma
Bush is the most secretive President in the history of our country and this discussion could give us a jumping point into making Bush's secretiveness an issue.

I'm *positive* that Bush's secrets are more damaging to Bush than anything Dean did in Vermont is damaging to Dean.
