Edited on Thu Nov-04-10 08:03 PM by Divernan
Congratulations to Senator Murray, and good wishes for her to fight the good fight in the coming years. One thing I absolutely appreciate is the energy and sacrifice it takes to work in the US Senate when one has to travel across country to do it. One of my kids lives in Seattle, and I find the trip from the East Coast really exhausting. Jet lag, etc.

(I refer to the concrete statue of a real troll under a bridge in Seattle - not the nasty trolls who lurk on
DU.)

12. Hooray!
I'm glad that Murray won, and especially glad that Rossi was handed yet another loss.

Rossi is like a herpes infection that has flare ups around every election. I wonder what he's going to run for next. I'll vote against him every time he runs. If he runs unopposed I'll write someone else's name, just so I can vote against him again.

Once again, Hooray for Patty Murray!!

41. He's kind of like a male christine o'donnell, isn't he?
Years ago there was this fellow Harold Stassen, who kept running for president. Something like seven times. He just didn't know when to give up. He became a national joke. I first heard about him as a teenager, reading Mad magazine where there was a one-liner to the effect of "sure, just like I believe Harold Stassen will be president someday."

dino rossi just keeps on running for stuff. Somehow he just must think he's entitled to rule - somewhere. In the last round if I'm not mistaken, he tried unsuccessfully to unseat Christine Gregoire as governor and he'll probably be back trying it again at the next opportunity. He IS INDEED like some herpes flare-up. Just won't go away. Wonder what christine o'donnell will run for next. Blithely dancing along, unaware of how tarnished her brand has become. dino rossi's another one. Keep it up dino. You become a bigger and bigger joke every time you add to that fine ol' LOSER STENCH that reeks in people's nostrils every time you walk by. He probably just has a whole bunch of sycophants propping him up, feeding his ego, assuring him that - hey, next time fer sure, dude!

Give it up, dino. READ the handwriting on the wall. Give it up while you still have a shard or two of self-respect. It ISN'T gonna happen for you. Find some other reason for being. Seems to me a consistent message is being sent, and you should grow up and accept that this just isn't in the cards for you. But I'm sure you have a lot of rich republi-CON friends - surely they can find a job for you, can't they?

he's got a lot of experience in making concession speeches.

Here's hoping that he makes this one a memorable one. With any luck, he'll KEEP his word this time when he says that he's through running for public office. Now he can spend quality time working to make his Coast Equity Partners *the* industry leader in foreclosure exploitation!

Bu-bye, oh smarmy one. Now that you're a 3-time loser you might even qualify to be recruited by the Mariners.

32. He issued a statement conceding.
http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/archives/227302.asp

Dino Rossi's campaign sent this out a short time ago:

"This evening, I called Senator Murray to offer my congratulations on her re-election to the U.S. Senate.

"I ran for the Senate because I believe we need a basic course correction from where Washington, D.C. has been taking us and to make sure this country is as free, as strong and as prosperous in the future as it has been in the past to preserve the best of America for future generations.

"That was a message that found a very receptive audience all across this state, though not quite receptive enough.

It's not like a Republican can't win a Washington Senate race: Slade Gorton won there fairly recently (1980, 1988, and 1994).

42. Not the third time for Murray. Just the third time overall for Rossi.
2004: Lost the governorship to Christine Gregoire.
2006: Lost to Maria Cantwell for a U.S. Senate seat.
2010: Lost to Patty Murray for a U.S. Senate seat.

But one doesn't need three electoral losses to know that Rossi is a loser.

Goooooodbyyyyye, motherfuckerrrrrrrr! :nopity:

prediction of the outcome of a Senate race.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x9407623

At least it's looking a bit better than a few weeks ago. I'm going to be really optimistic. If they get three of the toss-up races, the three 'leaning Dem' races and turn around 3 of the 'leaning Republican' races, they could end up with 57 seats.

But, that is being very optimistic. I think they could end up with at least 54.

Yay for Patty Murray.:bounce:

44. Wash. Dem Sen. Patty Murray beats GOP's Dino Rossi
Source: Associated Press

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) -- Democratic U.S. Sen. Patty Murray has defeated Republican challenger Dino Rossi after a third day of vote tallying in Washington state.

In capturing her fourth term, Murray adds to the Democrats' slight cushion in the Senate after Republicans made gains there Tuesday while also seizing control of the House.

Challenged strongly by Rossi amid anti-incumbent sentiment nationwide, Murray featured a strong defense of her role in securing federal spending, highlighting specific bridges, dams, highways and other projects she has helped deliver.

Rossi cast her as a tax

Another teabagger went down. I think this shows that the Dems won more Senate seats because these races had much more media exposure. When the races have national media exposure, the Teabaggers are expose who they are and the crazy ones go down.

When they do not have national media exposure, low-information voters vote for the Teabaggers because they are casting protesting vote without performing a detailed investigation into what the candidates actual beliefs are.

45. I think it's also because senators represent larger areas,
so they have to be more moderate to appeal to more than their own district. You can have a whole district of "low-information" voters but rarely a whole state.

although he, being a gutless slime ball without any ethics at all, adopted their rhetoric in order to get elected.

I think he is representative of a much worse kind, the corporatist repub. One that will bust unions and ship jobs overseas and give us 3 minimum wage one in return, for donations from the big corporations. If he has any world view, it is that a two class (very rich and very poor) society is best, because the rabble are too busy with survival issues to make much noise. And the rich are blessed by god.

I was betting that she would, and I always thought Rasmussen polls a couple weeks out from the election were trash( Rasmussen always does the fliparu a couple of days or about a week before the election to make it seem like they are not heavily slanted to the right.)

However, I was even getting a bit worried on election night when my county was red until more votes came in. It was pretty close, but Washington State is definitely a blue state!

and it was tight, but it finally went blue.

Although we have a lot of liberals here, we do have some conservatives and they are normally the most obnoxious and loudest voices in the room. They really ride my nerves.

I had to put one guy in his place months ago at the YMCA in the sauna because he just wouldn't shut up and called Obama a crack head. I was silent before I heard that. I gave him such a verbal whoppin that he went running out of the sauna all angry.

All I really wanted to do that night is relax in silence in the sauna after a hard workout, but I felt that I had to speak up; it totally ruined my workout buzz.

71. I expect to see him again in 2012
I would be surprised if he doesn't run in 2012. Considering how close these elections are, he's likely thinking he'll win if he can get more of the swing vote. So in that light, he's not winning (thank goodness), but he's winning over a significant population in the state which I could see as encouragement to keep trying and hope he can narrow the gap. I'm glad we have not elected him in this state, but I am concerned that eventually he is going to get through. What we need to see is Rossi in a landslide defeat. Until that happens I won't count him out.

Isn't this the third close loss for Rossi? I'd start feeling like I was bad luck if I were him! How many times does one have to run and lose before becoming a "perennial" candidate?

67. No, he lost by a decisive amount the last time.
There was almost a 200,000 vote margin against him when he ran against Gregoire the second time, in 2008.

In 2004 there was the initial 129 vote margin against him, which changed to a 133 vote margin when the judge that they shopped for found another 4 illegal votes for him, and deducted those from his total.

72. Decisive but..
that only suggests that he should abandon attempts to run against Gregoire. He got pretty close to Murray, question he and his people are probably asking is if they can do better against Cantwell.

77. At this point I don't think he could win if he were
running for dog-catcher, unopposed. 3-time loser, damaged goods, and everyone knows how piss-poor a campaigner he is. Even the few (R) friends I have didn't vote for him. They think that he has no 'fire in the belly' for the job, and that he comes across as a totally wishy-washy candidate.

I think he'll do better to keep exploiting the foreclosure market, and then fade into political obscurity he so richly deserves.
