Two Losing House Democrats Ask Pelosi to Step Aside
Source: CBS News

During a meeting of House Democrats today, two Democratic lawmakers who lost their reelection bids this year asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi not to follow through on her plan to remain as party leader, CBS News Senior Political Producer Jill Jackson reports.

Pelosi's response was to point members of her caucus to her record and credentials. She stated that she led Democrats out of the political wilderness in 2006 and vowed to do it again.

Pelosi surprised political observers when she announced on November 5th that she would run for minority leader in the new Congress. In the wake of what President Obama dubbed a "shellacking" in the midterm elections, many in Washington expected the liberal California Democrat to voluntarily leave the leadership.

Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) said yesterday that he would challenge Pelosi's leadership bid. A member of the relatively conservative "Blue Dog" coalition of Democrats that saw their numbers decimated in the midterms, he said he would be more effective than Pelosi in recruiting moderate Democrats to win back the seats lost this year.

One of the few surviving Blue Dogs wants to be leader of House Democrats? WTF is he supposed to be able to achieve that an actual Democrat like Pelosi couldn't? Oh, I see, recruit more Blue Dogs. Yessir, that's just what we need. More people just like him.

And lookee here, two losers on the way out the door have presumed to ask Pelosi not to run for Minority Leader. That's pretty tacky, it's really none of their business anymore. Too bad for them, Nancy will win by a wide margin tomorrow.

1. Most of the Blue Dogs lose, most of the Progressives win.
But that means the Dems should move to the right to appease the GOP.

3. Run as a progressive Democrat and win. Be up front about your principles. Most
American agree with Democratic principles. Why can't they see that?

27. No Run as a LIBERAL Democrat and win. Be up front about your principles. Most
American agree with Democratic principles. Most big donors evidently don't, that is why they can't that?

Until we have transparent VERIFIABLE elections in this country they never will acknowledge the truth

7. I think Pelosi is perfect. The Republicans will smear the next majority leader, too.
And the next and the next. She's fine where she is.

10. Republicons and Teabaggers running for office began by demonizng Obama. However,
his approval numbers improved, so they switched to demonizing Pelosi. Therefore, Democrats must dump her, just as they dumped the word "liberal" after Republicons demonized liberals. After all, we must validate Republicons without ceasing.

Hey, I am no fan of Congressional clean tables, but I'll be damned if I throw Pelosi under the bus simply bc Republlcons running for office demonized her simply for being a Democrat.

20. The press has made too much out of this story. I have to wonder why they want to see her go?
Unless, this part of their campaign coverage didn't go as they planned and now they are trying to discredit her, but making it appear Democrats don't want her to stay on.

25. Lead your area with progressive ideas, blue dogs deserve to loose
If you can't express the values and ideals, the reason people should vote democratic, then you don't deserve to be elected. We don't need any more slightly right "blue dog" republicans. At least with a republican in office it is obvious where the work needs to be done in swaying people. When a blue dog wins we think there is a democratic win, when in fact there is a repug in place with no support for the ideals and goals of the democratic party.

26. Why did NC elect Heath Shuler? He was a nobody in the NFL. A loser.
ESPN rated him the 4th biggest NFL Draft bust of ALL TIME.
