North Korea 'likely to attack again' (South Korea's intelligence chief)
Source: BBC

South Korea's intelligence chief is reported to have said that North Korea is very likely to attack again, a week after an artillery strike on a South Korean island.

The revelation came hours after officials said Seoul was planning more military exercises with the US.

=snip=

Won Sei-hoon, director of South Korea's National Intelligence Service, told a parliamentary committee behind closed doors that the recent attacks came amid "internal complaints" about Pyongyang's third generation succession and worsening economic situation, according to a ruling party official.

"There is a high possibility that the North will make another attack," South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted him as saying, adding that the government was trying to burnish the credentials of the designated leader who was still very young and untested, and also win new concessions from the international community.

5. South Korea has shown remarkable restraint
I think that restraint will evaporate if the North continues to play schoolyard bully.

6. They certainly have...
any other response would have been very ugly.

There is a lot at play here. SK unemployment stands at 3%. We get a huge number of our semiconductors from them.

War starts, things go bad. Not just for them and us but for that whole region.

There is a very tight line that is being walked right now.

god forbid a war starts, it will be met with massive retaliation by the South. They want it over and done with quick. It will make Iraq look like a walk in the park. China will protest massively, but in the end, I seriously doubt they will lend NK any help, except humanitarian aid afterward.

7. The North Koreans will lash out at anything within range if it happens.
You can bet the folks in Tokyo are hoping the latest version of the Patriot missile will work as advertised.

8. No kidding.
if war does erupt, it will be intense, fast and very destructive.

No one, least of all the NK's, can afford a long drawn out conflict.
