US firms post best job gains in three years
Source: AFP

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US private sector employment saw strong gains in November, with payrolls expanding by 93,000 -- the largest jump in three years, payrolls firm ADP said Wednesday.

"This month's ADP national employment report shows an acceleration of employment and suggests the nation's employment situation is brightening somewhat," the firm said.

The 10th consecutive month of gains offered hope that the job sector, still convalescing after a brutal economic recession, was on the mend.

But ADP warned "employment gains of this magnitude are not sufficient to lower the unemployment rate."

Private-sector payrolls continued to expand in November, with a large upward revision to October's number, according to data released Wednesday.

Meanwhile, manufacturing activity continued to expand in November, according to the Institute of Supply Management, but the pace of growth slowed a bit.
...
Service-sector jobs increased by 79,000 last month, while factory jobs rose by 16,000.
...
Other job reports released Wednesday were mixed.

TrimTabs estimated the U.S. economy added 117,000 jobs in November, the second consecutive monthly increase since May. However, the report warned the gains are driven by seasonal hiring and so are temporary.

Meanwhile, employers announced job cuts totaling 48,711 in November--28% higher than the planned layoffs reported in October. It was the highest job-cut total since March, according to global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.

Edited on Wed Dec-01-10 01:53 PM by TheWatcher
Of course, this morning the Yahoo article suspiciously CUT OUT that 61,611 Private Sector Jobs were CUT.

And of course, with 2 Million People LOSING THEIR UNEMPLOYMENT Benefits, perhaps now the F12 monkeys will have more gambling money to help reflate the Artificial Bubble.

But the Propagandists don't want you focused on that.

It's all "Good News".

They want you to remain Stupid, Sleeping, and Shopping.

Merry Fucking Christmas.

6. Doesn't seem like good news
Read the article and it's pretty negative. Also, what kind of jobs are these? My dad's employed, but making 1/3 of what he used to, for twice as much work, increased health insurance costs, and he lost all his retirement savings. Are these decent paying jobs, or minimum wage part time Wallmart greeters? I mean, it might be better than nothing, but these numbers are manipulated so much it's hard to say exactly what they mean anymore.

8. It's good news.
It's good news in terms of these reports which have been produced for decades. They were reliable when the news was bad, and they're equally reliable when they show an improvement, especially the biggest improvement in three years.

9. Of course it doesn't, to some people. As always, there are
people who will bemoan anything resembling good news. Me, I take every little step up as positive. And I'm sorry about your dad, but there are a lot of people in the same boat, including me. I choose to believe it's going to get better slowly but surely. It might even be happening now, so I won't consider this a negative. No one ever said this would be easy or happen immediately.

public to understand the proposals Obama is going to make about investing in our infrastructure & especially science R&D is not SOCIALISM it what built this country it is what sent us to the moon and helped created all the technology we enjoy today...And the main purpose is to CREATE NEW INDUSTRIES & JOBS JOBS JOBS! However, the Republicans via FOX "News" & Talk Radio have the majority thinking such investments in America are bad and green technology is just a stupid worthless Liberal idea. SAD!

SAD...Because China will dominate such stupid Liberal Industries if we do not start soon!

Oh yeah, and all government spending is bad unless it is for war & preventing a certain groups of people from having equal rights & control over their own bodies...And of course tax cuts for the wealthy!

13. Your optimism is appreciated - but at the same time .....
The current economic recovery leaves out Main St. and the Working Class with no end in sight.

I will however give SOME of the DEMs their due. They did put forth the proper legislation to close the HUGE Loop Hole George Bush and his "Lock-Step RATpubliCON Minions" put in place that creates "TAX INCENTIVES to OUT SOURCE JOBs".

Al thou - I CAN NOT FORGIVE the Democrat Controlled Senate for stripping those provisions out of the Bill (HR 1413) which was passed by the house. TeaBaggers are right about 1 thing - we need to change the Jack Asses that are Trashing America. Too bad we could not have made a few key changes in our DEM leadership when we had the consensus for change and a Majority of Americans behind us

24. I don't mean to be a pesimist
I WANT good news, but I've come to feel there is some serious rot in the system and until it is seriously addressed, there will be no true recovery. Like someone posted below, there's a pretty big "but" in this information pointing out that a lot of these are seasonal retail type jobs that will be cut after the holidays. In other words, low paying, hard work, with no benefits. Unfortunately, many companies have discovered they don't need as many workers to remain profitable, so a lot of jobs won't be coming back on a permanent basis at all. Also, you have more large corporations driving smaller companies out of business. So you might end up with 1000 minimum wage type jobs created, but 500 or so quality jobs lost. Those are some reasons I never trust these reports of "we gained this many jobs" or "we lost this many jobs" as indicators of good or bad news by themselves.

As are these jobs.

Reality will return in January.

But by then there will be whole NEW Smorgasbord of lies for us to engorge ourselves on.

So you see, it's all Good, Good, Good, no mater what, Winston.

FIVE FINGERS!

those who got jobs.

23. And bad for them when those jobs disappear in January.
But don't worry, there will be new lies, distortions, fabrication, and Propaganda by then to keep us Stupid, Sleeping, and Shopping.

For those of us who still have any disposable income left, of course.

Still plenty of "unaffected" out there, apparently.

However, there are 2,000,000 people who got coal in their stocking this year.

I'm sure that's only "temporary" and "seasonal" though.

Once they've been forgotten, everything will be right as rain again.
