Now that the Bidders' presentations are over, the FIFA Executive Committee will gather to consider its verdict and vote for who has the right to be hosts of the FIFA World Cup for 2018 and 2022. The announcement is expected at approximately 16.00 CET, when FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter will open the envelopes to reveal the names of the winners before a live audience and the global media representatives at the Zurich Exhibition Centre.

4. Exactly.
A shame. I hope Qatar modifies their rather draconian laws before 2022 - wouldn't do to toss a bunch of tourists in the clink for celebrating. All indoor, no alcohol. Will the female ticket holders have to be decently covered, too?

6. Actually...
..Qatar is pretty modern and the laws for Westerners is different than for locals. You can purchase alcohol in many places.

You can see the Burkas walking next to women in jeans and t-shirts. It is a very interesting country.

Now...driving in Qatar is taking your life into your hands...that is madness.

11. Modern on the outside.
Medieval underneath. Interesting as long as you turn a blind eye to the human rights abuses, I guess.

3. Choices are BS [R]
The goal was apparently to find new venues, not to host a "successful" cup.

8. The goal was apparently...
...to line the FIFA voters' pockets with petrodollars. Mission accomplished!

9. They have promised air-conditioned outdoor stadiums...
:eyes:

Also, "drinking zones" for visiting foreign fans. What a great idea -- designate places where large numbers of foreigners (particularly Westerners) will gather to violate Islamic law. What can possibly go wrong with that plan?

10. Such bullshit,
I mean really...Qatar instead of the United States?

I love soccer (futbol), and I religiously watch every World Cup, but this is just reeking of $$$$$$$$$$$ bribes. There is no logical reason other than that. And spare me the "it's to experience other cultures".

13. Because,
-We have the infrastructure.
-We have the stadiums.
-We have the climate.
-We drink beer.
-We don't make women wear veils.

Shall I go on?
