WikiLeaks now storing files in 'James Bond' bunker

Amazon dumped the controversial site WikiLeaks from its computer servers on Wednesday. But WikiLeaks, which is known for publishing state secrets, apparently has found a new home for its files: A Cold War bunker, inside a Swedish mountain, that's been described as fit for a "James Bond" movie.

A company called Bahnhof is hosting the WikiLeaks site from a literal cave inside White Mountain, near Stockholm, Sweden, according to news reports from Forbes, The Associated Press, and the Norwegian news website VG Nett.

The MIT Technology Review, where we spotted this story, describes the situation this way:

"If Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is trying to turn himself into a Bond villain, he's succeeded: the ongoing distributed denial of service attack against Wikileaks has forced his minions to move the site to a fortified data center encased in a cold war-era, nuke-proof bunker encased in bedrock. Really."

Forbes has further details about the storage site:

WikiLeaks reportedly is storing some of its data in this Swedish bunker, as shown in a YouTube
video by Data Center Pulse

The video from Data Center Pulse's YouTube channel...

White Mountain, Fit For A James Bond Villain!
This is the first edition of Data Center Pulse, On The Road. In this episode, Jon Karlung, CEO of Bahnhof, a local teclo gives Dean Nelson a tour of his Pionen, White Mountain datacenter in downtown Stockholm, Sweden. It is located in a bunker 30 meters under solid bedrock. It was a cold war bunker that was converted into this datacenter and is said to be able to withstand a Hydrogen bomb blast. It is very unique and reminds me of a James Bond movie! And that is what Jon was going for.

3. There are many secure storage sites. I know they exist n the US too
Iron Mountain is a huge secure data storage corporation. The government and other corporations have used sites like this for years to meet some of their Disaster Recovery needs.

27. Iron Mountain is awesome. I wish we had something like that on the left coast.
The truly amazing thing is that it's so energy efficient. Rack heat is dissipated directly into the limestone walls. HVAC is regulated by pumping the air through the water from an underground lake. The power requirements are tiny compared to a normal surface level datacenter.

There are also a number of disaster datacenters across the country operating in old missile silos. None are as deep, or as efficient, as Iron Mountain.

28. On 911, one of our client's DRA site was across the river in Hoboken NJ
But Iron Mountain has branches. The company I worked for off-sited their backed up data with them.

6. Better to refer to it as a rebel base that's more resistant to Empire Death Star attacks...
That's a better characterization of the sides involved.

...and science fiction movies were the inspiration.

This one was waaay too easy for any reporter to jump on.

From the conclusion of the article in the OP...

One video, from a group called Data Center Pulse, describes the center as one of the coolest on earth and "fit for a James Bond villain." A man who describes himself as Bahnhof's CEO in the video says that the inspiration for the center actually was "science fiction and James Bond movies."

Talk about using biased language to smear Julian Assange.
