4 relatives of Edwards donor visit NC grand jury
Source: Associated Press

<snip>

"An attorney says four relatives of a wealthy woman who donated to former presidential candidate John Edwards have been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury in North Carolina.

Alexander Forger told The Associated Press that four of Bunny Mellon's family members arrived Friday at the Raleigh courthouse. Forger says Mellon's son, two grandsons and one of the grandson's wives have been subpoenaed.

But he says they know nothing about the Edwards campaign beyond the fact that Bunny Mellon supported the former North Carolina senator.

A grand jury has been looking into Edwards' campaign finances for more than a year, bringing in his longtime aides and mistress Rielle Hunter for testimony. Two former campaign aides visited the courthouse Thursday."

2 ex-Edwards aides testify in probe of payments to mistress

<snip>

"Two of former presidential hopeful John Edwards' top aides testified Thursday to a federal grand jury looking into payments from the North Carolina Democrat's campaign to his one-time mistress.

Jonathan Prince, who was Edwards' deputy campaign manager during his unsuccessful 2008 presidential run, and then-spokesman Jennifer Palmieri were called before the grand jury, two sources familiar with the case said.

This comes amid the Justice Department's investigation into money that went from Edwards' campaign and from his supporters to Rielle Hunter, who was a videographer with the campaign.

The grand jury has been meeting at the federal courthouse in Raleigh, North Carolina, since last year."

2. Edwards and Kucinich were the only candidates who
dared promise to negotiate at arms length with the corporations if they were president.

That is why Edwards had to be silenced for conduct that was certainly wrong, but not as wrong as letting torturers and bankers who commit fraud and profit from fraud go scot-free.

5. Edwards' game was pretty easy to spot
He saw an opening on the left wing of the Democratic Party and like a good opportunist, he filled it. At the time I had little doubt that had the opening been on the right or in the center, he would have had no problem tailoring his message accordingly. That being said, he sure isn't the only politician who's done such things, but he is one of the more obvious recent examples.

The subsequent baby row was neither here nor there for me. The real comedy was his campaign.
