Vice President Biden attacks GOP ahead of Senate tax-cut vote
Source: MSNBC

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden urged lawmakers to extend middle-class tax cuts and aid for the jobless, ahead of a vote on the issue in the Senate Saturday.

Biden, delivering the weekly White House radio and Internet address because President Barack Obama was flying home from Afghanistan, framed the issue as Democrats sticking up for the middle-class while Republicans protected richer Americans.

"I just don't agree with the folks who've said we can't afford a lifeline for Americans who lost their jobs during the worst recession in generations, but we can afford to borrow hundreds of billions of dollars to extend tax cuts for the wealthiest two percent," he said.

(snip)

Biden urged the Senate to approve the measure, which has already been backed by the U.S. House of Representatives, but it has little chance of passing due to a lack of support.

1. The news this AM is saying the deal will be an extension of all tax cuts
Edited on Sat Dec-04-10 08:12 AM by chelsea0011
for extension of unemployment insurance? That's not a deal. that's a cave-in. My feeling is let all the tax cuts expire.

2. "Due To A Lack Of Support"
That statement is a gross misrepresentation. The bill would pass the Senate too if it were not for a Republican filibuster that requires a super majority of 60 votes. So much for the "liberal" media.

4. Time has come to kill the filibuster
and pass every piece of legislation the Repubes have been stopping before the Republican House gets to scuttle everything.
Of course this would require gonadal fortitude.
Is Mitch McConnell a pod person or some other alien life form ?

6. Where's an attack? I read the entire article, and
"I just don't agree" is not an attack nor even particularly convincing.

HERE's a sample attack:

"Any member of Congress or the Senate who votes against extending unemployment benefits will find Air Force One landing in their district or state very soon with a warning from the President on board that their rep or Senator is no longer an effective rep for them, and any and all discretionary funds and programs under the control of the executive branch will be eliminated or delayed so long as this lousy person is in office."

See? That's an attack, and it worked for LBJ. You surely don't think the Civil Rights Act and all the rest of that legislation was passed because all those hoary old Congressmen had an attack of conscience?

7. Filibuster Fear
I hope I'm not out of line here, but why not just go ahead and let them filibuster? That would certainly show the people what they really stand for.

8. Ten of the GOP senators didn't even bother to vote...
...to proceed with the two options for extending a portion of the tax cuts, the $250,000 and $1 million limits. Every last Republican present voted against proceeding, even the so-called moderates.

I think Joe needs to open up a can of whoopass.
