Tension grows between Calif. Muslims, FBI after informant infiltrates mosque
Source: Washington Post

IRVINE, CALIF. - Before the sun rose, the informant donned a white Islamic robe. A tiny camera was sewn into a button, and a microphone was buried in a device attached to his keys.

"This is Farouk al-Aziz, code name Oracle," he said into the keys as he sat in his parked car in this quiet community south of Los Angeles. "It's November 13th, 4:30 a.m. And we're hot."

The undercover FBI informant - a convicted forger named Craig Monteilh - then drove off for 5 a.m. prayers at the Islamic Center of Irvine, where he says he spied on dozens of worshipers in a quest for potential terrorists.

Since the 2001 terrorist attacks, the FBI has used informants successfully as one of many tactics to prevent another strike in the United States. Agency officials say they are careful not to violate civil liberties and do not target Muslims.

3. The FBI could spend better time and achieve far more beneficial results were they to infiltrate the
boardrooms of the six major banks and put an end to the real crime of the century, the fleecing of America.

FBI questions Skyline professor, neighbors
By: Jessica Ritter
Posted: 11/15/10
The FBI questioned ten-year Skyline Community College veteran professor of Economics, Masao Suzuki Sept. 24, at 7 a.m.
Suzuki has been active as a self-proclaimed antiwar activist and is part of several organizations in San Jose, where he lives...

"Basically a young man asked my name, and I said yes that was me, and he said he was from the FBI and asked if he could ask me a few questions, and I exercised my right to not answer his questions," said Suzuki when explaining the events of the morning of Sept. 24. "He said he could come back later, and I said no, and he said he could come to my work and ask me a few questions, and I said no I didn't want to talk to him, and he said that if I didn't want to answer his questions he'd ask my neighbors and co-workers instead, and I took that as a threat."
...

"Unfortunately this is an attempt to criminalize political thought," said Suzuki. "The government wants to redefine material support, which I would think of as guns and drugs, to what is said and written."
The FBI declined to comment saying there was no warrant involved.

This professor teaches in the same city which two weeks before had a gas pipeline explode and level over 50 homes, killing 8 people. That's the kind of explosion the FBI could've been helping with, instead they bother this guy.

6. Freedom of Religion in America?
Freedom of Religion in America? Not really, unless you are in the "right religion." On the other hand there is yes, "freedom of religion" for those in the approved and select religions which the government deems okay and does not spy on your free worship services. Sounds a little totalitarian to me.

So, are you implying religious apartheid in America?

Yes, I am stating there is religious apartheid in America as the double standard shows if one is an Atheist or Muslim. And one thought only those Muslims could be, oh well you know "Nazis." Well, denying and impeding "freedom" seems very Nazi-like to me.

Didn't the USA recruit and allow in former German Nazis after World War II? Yep, and who would ever have thought that one?

Those double standards are so haunting yet so typical in the land of the "free" in America. Yeah, you betcha ya!

The people at the Mosque called the police on him, went to court and got a restraining order... he was so insistent on getting them to talk about jihad. We paid him 177,000 tax-free dollars (at least) to do this.

where are the tea baggers on this?

13. I am a firm believer that people can be talked into committing a crime.
This does not mean that there should not be any FBI informants. Sometimes they cross the line by talking people into doing something they would not do on their own initiative.

15. Every group has it's assholes, sounds like this guy was one. Glad they got a restraining order again
against him. Sounds like he needed some further training as was pretty poor at what he did as well as being an asshole.

"We started hearing that he was saying weird things," said Omar Kurdi, a Loyola Law School student who knew Monteilh from the mosque and gym. "He would walk up to one of my friends and say, 'It's good that you guys are getting ready for the jihad."

(clip)
(a man from the mosque) A few days later, Ayloush got an anguished phone call from Niazi and the other man in the car.

"They said Farouk had told them he had access to weapons and that they should blow up a mall,'' Ayloush recalled. "They were convinced this man was a terrorist."

Ayloush reported the FBI's own informant to the FBI. He said agents interviewed Niazi, who gave them the same account, but the agency took no action against Monteilh.

16. Read the article, esp page 4. What an idiot. He sounds like he should never have been
involved with the FBI beyond putting him in jail for forgery, grand-theft.

18. what a jerkoff
criminal turned FBI informant clumsily tries to bait innocent people into jihad talk, and then he outs the FBI when the gravy train stops

of course, this says more about the FBI's practices than it does about the informant

19. So when will informants infiltrate Catholic churches
asking "anyone wanna kill abortion doctors?" That sorta thing could prevent the next Scott Roeder, dontchathink?

The FBI uses informants to target any potential crime: terrorists, gangs, drug traffickers, etc.
