Iran 'produces own raw uranium'
Source: BBC

Iran says it has delivered its first domestically produced raw uranium, or yellowcake, to a plant that can make it ready for enrichment.

The statement, from Iran's nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi, comes the day before talks between Iran and world powers over its nuclear programme.

Enriched uranium can be used for fuel in reactors or made into nuclear bombs.

"The West had counted on the possibility of us being in trouble over raw material but today we had the first batch of yellowcake from Gachin mine sent to Isfahan (conversion) facility," Mr Salehi said on state television.

Atomic chief says country has produced its first batch of "yellowcake", the raw material used for uranium enrichment.

Last Modified: Dec 05 2010 16:12 GMT

Iran has produced its first batch of uranium concentrates to be used at a nuclear plant, a major step in cutting its reliance on imports of the key ingredient for nuclear fuel, state media has reported.

Ali Akbar Salehi, the country's atomic chief, said on Sunday that Iranian experts would begin using domestically produced yellowcake, the raw material for enrichment, at the Isfahan conversion plant.

"The West had counted on the possibility of us being in trouble over raw material but today we had the first batch of yellowcake from Gachin mine sent to Isfahan facility," Salehi said on state television on Sunday.

The announcement came just a day before world powers meet with Iranian officials in another attempt to persuade them to halt uranium enrichment.

3. This brings us much closer to war.
How sad that Iran is doing this. It puts other countries in the Middle East under pressure to arm themselves with nuclear weapons also.

I feel sorry for the Iranian people -- and the whole world. This is a sad development.

6. Time to invade Libya.
We're still operating under the * Doctrine, right? Well, since Iraq had no nuclear arms or yellowcake uranium at the same time that North Korea was claiming to have nukes, it follows that now that Iran has yellowcake, we need to invade Libya with their stupid green flag.

15. So we can count you in as pro-nuclear proliferation then?
Who else would you like to see get nukes?

Perhaps Syria? Libya? Zimbabwe?

"As soon as they join the rank of countries that cannot be raped by the US the better."

Thank God most liberals/Democrats/progressives don't think and talk like you. We'd lose every election from here to eternity if we adopted that attitude as a party.
