Righthaven now working with Media News, sues over Denver Post column
Edited on Sun Dec-05-10 09:36 AM by Newsjock
Source: Las Vegas Sun

Las Vegas-based newspaper copyright enforcement company Righthaven LLC is now doing business with Media News Group and has sued a blogger for alleged copyright infringement involving a column from the Media News-owned Denver Post.

An attorney for Righthaven filed the suit Thursday in federal court in Charleston, S.C. This appears to be the first lawsuit Righthaven has filed in a federal court outside of Nevada, where since March it has filed 179 copyright infringement lawsuits.

Thursday’s suit would seem to raise the stakes in Righthaven’s litigation campaign as it now involves Media News, which calls itself the nation’s second-largest media company, with major newspaper operations in Colorado, Northern and Southern California, Salt Lake City, El Paso, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Detroit and elsewhere.

In California, Media News is part of a partnership called the Bay Area News Group that includes Stephens Media Group. An affiliate of Stephens Media has invested in Righthaven and, until now, all of Righthaven’s lawsuits involved the Stephens Media-owned Las Vegas Review-Journal.

1. We should scrub DU of any and all links to Denver Post and other Media News Group publications.

In fact, every website and blog should do the same.

Also, let's start posting Denver Post articles on right-wing blogs.

4. Denver Post is very much disliked and it is right-leaning
Our old paper, The Rocky Mountain News, was a far better paper...

It folded because the owners couldn't find a buyer. Denver Post should have folded a long time ago.

2. Oh great. I just renewed Denver Post just last week
Now I'll have to tell the wife that she will have to drop it again. She's been after me to renew it.

3. I hope DU and EFF's countersuit goes on full steam and completely destroys Righthaven
and Righthaven has to end up paying bloggers $75,000 EACH for their barratary suits.

I might be thinking about launching a second counterlawsuit from right here in Denver (where I'm affected) against Righthaven and ask EFF to assist me to stop Righthaven from another front.
