Jihadis bent on concocting a "new kind of terrorism" are brainstorming how to surgically implant explosives to make undetectable Frankenbombers.

"What is your opinion about surgeries through which I can implant the bomb ...inside the operative's body?" an apparent mad surgeon recently asked an online forum used by Al Qaeda affiliates.

He called on bombmakers and doctors to cook up the perfect solution to murder "larger numbers of unbelievers and apostates."

"I am waiting for the interaction of the experienced brothers to connect the two sciences together and produce a new kind of terrorism, Allah willing," he wrote, according to a translation by terror experts at the SITE Intelligence Group.

Nice journalism there.

If you could even do it, it would be hopelessly ineffective. In order to inflict any kind of casualties beyond the bomber, an explosive needs shrapnel and such. And last I looked, a suit made of nails or metal would likely be pretty easy to spot.

the Bojinka plot, and the shoe and underwear bombers hope to create a large enough hole & explosive decompression with enough structural/controls damage to bring down a plane.

But it might be more likely just to kill the bomber & perhaps a couple of people near the bomber.

I wouldn't put it past some in Al Qaeda blue skying this though I think they are a long way to fruitation. There was reports this was tried in Iraq with some dogs.

I presume the purpose of such a bomb would be to take the plane out, not to just do damage to people in the plane. If so, could someone not ingest, or have implanted in them, sufficient non-detectable explosive material to blow a hole in the aircraft fuselage and bring it down?
