GOP Senator George Voinovich Will Vote Against Any Extension Of Bush Tax Cuts

Retiring Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio) has broken ground in the Senate by becoming the first to announce that he won't support any extension of the Bush tax cuts -- for middle-class families or the wealthy -- on the grounds that it fails to address serious tax reform or take any real steps toward fiscal austerity."As I look at my experience, I believe that if this thing goes through and we extend it, we will kick this thing down the road," Voinovich said in an interview after addressing an Aspen Institute roundtable in Washington. "It's completely irresponsible."
Democrats are currently engaged in a last-minute battle to reject the extension of the Bush tax cuts for the top two percent of income earners, but some have suggested that the White House is already in the final stages of mapping out a package that would allow for a temporary across-the-board extension of the cuts in return for GOP support on the

This could get interesting. However, why did Voinovich sign McConnell's petition last week, though?

5. McCain has taught them you can say anything on both sides and not get held accounted for it

say 'yes' and 'no' and even a 'maybe' and call it a day, just like Old Man McCain does.

8. Excellent point
McCrazy's madness seems to be spreading to the likes of Susan "I'll vote for it if Bush endorses it" Collins as well.

4. No Republican Voted To End Filibuster
On middle class tax cuts only with 200/250k or 1m cap so it is kind of late for Voinovich to try and be a hero because he has consistently been part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

9. Puzzling...George Didn't Seem Worried About Being Irresponsible...

10. Then why did he sign the letter from Mitch McConnell...
...stating that no one among the Republican senators would agree to move any legislation forward until the government was funded and the tax cuts were extended?

See the C-SPAN link below and look at all those signature. Even so-called moderates signed on.

I'm glad he's found a road to Damascus-style conversion and all, but is it genuine? Just a bit of guilt kicking in late?

And speaking of kicking, I didn't hear of him reading the Riot Act to Scott Brown (R-MA) when the latter got up and tut-tutted about the need to pay for the extension of unemployment benefits, even though A) they will be temporary and B) they cost us less than the tax cuts.

What gives, George?

11. Will he fillibuster any proposed extension?
Because if he doesn't, which way he votes is absolutely irrelevant to anything. As long as they give tax cuts to the rich, the republicans are on board. And as long as they give tax cuts to the rich, enough democrats are on board to hit the 50. Or so I read the tea leaves.
