Visa suspends all payments to WikiLeaks
Source: AP

LONDON — Visa says it has suspended all payments to WikiLeaks pending an investigation of the organization's business.

Visa's decision is a powerful blow to the loosely knit organization, which relies on online donations to fund its operations.

Popular online payment company PayPal, Inc. has already severed its links with WikiLeaks. Visa's decision to pull the plug on WikiLeaks leaves the website with one fewer source of revenue.

Swiss authorities closed Assange's new Swiss bank account Monday.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

2. VISA was started by Bank of America.
But now is separate from them sort of. Which I find ironic.

Now what is their corporate saying?

VISA where you want to be? or is it the 'PRICELESS one?

11. If noting else, this highlights what worldwide powers the oiligarchy has.
This should remove a LOT of blinders.

Imagine what the world was like when Ellsberg released the Pentagon Papers, or
Woodward/Bernstein broke Watergate, and the newspapers actually helped expose the truths!

Visa suspends all payments to WikiLeaks
From: AP December 08, 2010 1:35AM

VISA has suspended all payments to WikiLeaks pending an investigation of the organisation's business. Visa's decision is a powerful blow to the loosely knit organisation, which relies on online donations to fund its operations.

=snip=

Visa's decision to pull the plug on WikiLeaks leaves the website with one fewer source of revenue. The move by Visa comes as the legal net tightened around WikiLeaks and founder Julian Assange following his arrest in London last night.

"Visa Europe has taken action to suspend Visa payment acceptance on WikiLeaks' website pending further investigation into the nature of its business and whether it contravenes Visa operating rules," a statement said.

A Visa spokesman told AFP: "This is a decision we have taken ourselves. I am not aware that we have come under any pressure from any government."

17. This entire thing is beyond disgusting.
Not one country has charged WikiLeaks with a crime.

Not one country has definitively identified a law they might have broken.

Not one country has issued a warrant for any Wikileaks principals for anything related to the leaks.

And yet, these spineless banking cowards, abetted by the media, are treating them like some sort of criminal organization. Forget innocent until proven guilty. Can't we at least agree that you should be considered innocent UNTIL YOU'RE AT LEAST CHARGED WITH SOMETHING?!?!

I'm keeping a list, and will be closing my accounts at every company that jumps on this bandwagon. I closed my Paypal account yesterday, and sent Amazon a letter informing them why I'd no longer do business with them. I guess it's time for Visa and Mastercard to join the list.

19. Yet Visa lets you donate to a Klan-supported organization
From the Guardian blog site:

4.14pm: Charles Arthur, the Guardian's technology editor, points out that while MasterCard and Visa have cut WikiLeaks off you can still use those cards to donate to overtly racist organisations such as the Knights Party, which is supported by the Ku Klux Klan.

The Ku Klux Klan website directs users to a site called Christian Concepts. It takes Visa and MasterCard donations for users willing to state that they are "white and not of racially mixed descent. I am not married to a non-white. I do not date non-whites nor do I have non-white dependents. I believe in the ideals of western Christian civilisation and profess my belief in Jesus Christ as the son of God."

Visa became today the fifth financial institution to suspend payments to WikiLeaks, after Moneybookers, PayPal, Mastercard, and PostFinance. A spokesman said: "Visa Europe has taken action to suspend Visa payment acceptance on WikiLeaks' website pending further investigation into the nature of its business and whether it contravenes Visa operating rules," reports the Press Association.

The Guardian wrote: "Charles Arthur, the Guardian's technology editor, points out that while MasterCard and Visa have cut WikiLeaks off you can still use those cards to donate to overtly racist organisations such as the Knights Party, which is supported by the Ku Klux Klan.

The Ku Klux Klan website directs users to a site called Christian Concepts. It takes Visa and MasterCard donations for users willing to state that they are 'white and not of racially mixed descent. I am not married to a non-white. I do not date non-whites nor do I have non-white dependents. I believe in the ideals of western Christian civilisation and profess my belief in Jesus Christ as the son of God.'"

Probably no further comment is needed. (You can still donate to WikiLeaks via other methods.)
