House Bill to Give Seniors $250 Is Defeated
Source: NY Times

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: December 8, 2010
Filed at 12:17 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House has rejected a Democratic effort to pay Social Security recipients $250 to make up for the lack of a cost-of-living increase for next year.

Democrats argued that the payment was needed to offset the hardships of seniors facing a second consecutive year without an increase.

But Republicans contended that the nation couldn't afford the estimated $14 billion cost of the one-time payment, and that the two-year freeze comes after seniors received a significant boost in 2009.

Cost-of-living adjustments are set automatically each year by an inflation measure that was adopted by Congress in 1975. More than 58 million retirees, disabled people and surviving family members receive Social Security or Supplemental Security Income checks.

Now it starts, the pukes saying "the nation couldn't afford..." and they are nothing but fucking hypocrites but this entire (continuing) sham lies at the feet of BO.

Maybe the seniors don't "deserve" the break yet BILLIONAIRES do?

This is just too much bullshit for anyone to swallow.

Has Gallup polled with the question: Who deserves it more?

45. Me Too, Mineralman...
...In the 35 years I have voted and I have voted in almost EVERY election both local and national, I have never once voted Repuke. Not only am I a senior, I am poor and worked McJobs all my life. I have nothing to show for it BUT Social Security. And before anyone begins blaming the poor for everything, no I was never a drug addict, alcoholic, I married in the church, raised three kids, volunteered and did all that a good citizen does ~ as most low income people do.

However, as an activist low income people do not feel heard ~ as Seniors are getting the message about now. "You don't matter, only the rich do" is what they will hear as the "trickel down" is coming to them from the demonizing of the poor that has done for years.

I would never vote Repuke, nor can I stand the elitist and stoooooopid Tea Baggers, nor would I subscribe to a bunch of malarkey when it comes to budget considerations about taxes that seem to always fall on the poor worse than anyone else. At this time the poor in every state pay upwards of 15-17% of their incomes in taxes while even the middle class pay around 5% and the rich pay little or nothing. http://www.itepnet.org/whopays3.pdf

It is all in the bank account with the rich and always has been. They have not changed since King George taxed tea in such a way only the rich could afford it. I am sick at heart that the Tea Partiers hijacked the name because they are making the real tea party participants roll in their graves since Tp-ers themselves suck at the teat of the rich who fund their "rage" and use corporate whores to tell them what to think. What a bunch if idiots whose voting is at best about ignorance.

So no, I do not vote Repuke, never have never will, and at my age I can say I will never change.

7. It was fast track proceedure...here is the vote...
The measure was brought up under a fast-track procedure that required a two-thirds majority for passage. The 254-153 vote in favor of the bill fell short of that.

My guess is all of the Pukes voted against .....14 Billion...can't afford...sure....:sarcasm:

their ivory towers. Does anyone know a poor congressman. ... For many it's a great position for benefits and $$$ maneuvering for personal gain. Yet many citizens have their heads up their butt when they vote. American citizens deserve the outfall of the politicians they elect IMO.

Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 02:29 PM by Liberalynn
"Reaganhood": Rob from the poor to give to the rich." I expect it from the Pukes, just wish we didn't have a supposedly Democratic president who is so willing to enable them in their endless pursuit of this philosophy. He did say during the election time that he admired Reagan, so that should have been a warning even though he claimed we weren't taking it the way he meant it. Its another case of believe what I tell you to believe and pay no attention to what I am actually doing.

For those who will say its Congresses fault not Obama's, he opened the door for his new best pals and signaled he accepted this kind of behavior yesterday. They know Obama has their back so why do anything different.

I voted for him based on his promises. Just wished he'd kept them.

The Bush Tax Cuts created the deficit not Social Security. Get the rich off our backs. Tell everyone you know to make this call.

Me must call them out on the sheer craziness of hypocrisy here. It's obvious that the Repukes have declared war on the middle class, and I'd rather keep them in session through Christmas to pass unemployment benefits than to allow them to have the opportunity to make the tax cuts for the rich permanent. Permanent tax cuts for the rich are what will *REALLY* bankrupt the country.
