Stop loss allowance deadline extended -- again
Source: Air Force Times

Concerned that fewer than half of the people eligible for a $500 per month stop loss allowance have applied for the money, the House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday to extend the application deadline for the payment to Sept. 30, 2011.

The proposed extension is included in HR 3082, the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act of 2011 that passed the House on Wednesday and is on its way to the Senate.

Just last Friday, Congress extended the stop loss allowance application deadline until midnight, Dec. 18, as part of another federal funding bill.

Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Ohio, one of the original sponsors of the stop loss allowance, has pushed for extensions of the application deadline because she doesn’t want service members and veterans to miss out on a payment that averages $3,700 per person for those whose active-duty service has been involuntarily extended by so-called stop loss order to delay retirement or separation.
