UN Guards Beat Reuters Photographer At Cancún Climate Talks

Democracy Now! videotaped UN security guards Friday beating a Reuters photographer who was arrested while covering a protest at the UN climate conference in Cancun. Guards seized Jorge Silva’s press credentials and then beat him while he was detained on a bus. The incident sparked a protest by other Mexican photographers.

2. Democracy in action. You have to risk your life to record what governments are doing.
There was the case of the college kid in Britain with blood on his brain possibly caused by a beating from pole and now this. We live in a world where if you disagree with your own government or if you even attempt to record what they are doing, you risk your life.

But if you passively go along, defend your government no matter what, you risk absolutely nothing.

4. Sounds like UN guards are reflecting their home countrties' ways
of doing business, not that which should be UN's way.

Wonder how much training they actually receive from UN.
