Secret Richard Nixon tapes reveal U.S. president thought Jews were 'obnoxious'
Source: daily mail UK

Richard Nixon launched offensive tirades against blacks, Jews and other ethnic groups in conversations recorded before he quit over the Watergate scandal.

The disgraced U.S. president called Jews ‘obnoxious’ and said it would take 500 years for blacks to reach prominence in America, according to a new batch of secret White House tapes made public yesterday.

‘I’ve just recognised that, you know, all people have certain traits,’ Nixon said to a top adviser in February 1973.

...

‘The Jews have certain traits. The Irish have certain traits - for example, the Irish can’t drink. What you always have to remember with the Irish is they get mean.

...

The remarks were captured by the controversial recording system Nixon had installed in the Oval Office and included 265 hours of tapes released by the Nixon Presidential Library and Museum.

7. He called people a lot of things, I suspect sociopath would be
one of the less offensive things he painted onto people

6. I wonder what Ben Stein thinks of that?
Wasn't he a speech-writer for him, and tearfully waved him and his family goodbye when they vacated the WH?

17. With Ben Stein as his speech-writer
I can see why Nixon thought Jews were obnoxious.

30. LOLOL! That burrowed frow!
Speaking of which...

A friend of my cousin's old roommate possessed a Nixon bong.
Ceramic, painted in a happy brown,
it was a glossy and anatomically correct bust of the crook.
Detailed with receding male pattern baldness over a suspicious, furrowed brow,
its tricky eyes were set above the ski ramp nose.
The nasal labial fold formed magnificent jowls, which framed the ample trough.
Right in the middle of his forehead was the carburetor hole.

16. He wasn't that off for his time. But for a Quaker? Oy.
Still, that kind of casual bigotry was so common, so accepted....it is very hard for people now to understand the ordinariness of it.

Less than 20 years ago, I walked into Columbia University and heard one of my new classmates refer to Jews as a "race."

19. What hurts me is that part in the new hours about how African-Americans would need *500*
years to be fully integrated into society. Nixon says specifically it can't be done in 50 years, because only "some" of "them" are "intelligent." And then he says that they're going to have to be "inbred" to make it happen...by which I assume he means "bred" with white people to remove all traces of Blackness or something.

Richard Nixon was a vile, vile man.

23. To boppers --
If you'll check your history, you'll discover that Nixon was elected in 1968. There were issues in this country that led directly to his being elected. It was not an aberration at all. A tragedy, perhaps, but not an aberration.

28. Spent some time reading up on his career today...
It makes more sense now, considering his service and his record.... it's almost as if there were two very different people in Nixon, one, a principled liberal republican, and another, a lying conniving crook.
