McDonald's says customer database hacked
Edited on Mon Dec-13-10 03:53 PM by denem
Source: USA Today

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — McDonald's (MCD) says some of its customers' private information may have been accessed during a data breach.

The company has told customers that a third party was able to get past security measures to access a database of customer information that included e-mail and other contact information, birthdates and other specifics.

The compromised database did not include any financial information or Social Security numbers.

Customers provided this information when they signed up for online promotions or other subscriptions to its websites.

14. every crappy corporation out there does this
you can hardly get a coupon or win a "prize" with out giving them a bunch of personal info - think about grocery store "loyalty" cards. Gotta have one if you don't want to pay $5 for a carton of eggs.

want to see if you won a free coke or some other thing from the bag of chips you just ate? Just go on line and sign up!

30. Acxiom tends to have more than single companies...
That being said, it wasn't McDonalds, but Arc Worldwide's subcontractor (who was hired by Arc, who was hired by McDonalds) that was breached.... so there probably wasn't a lot of cross-referenced or aggregated data.
