Tony Blair should give up millions of pounds he is earning from the Kuwaiti government as reparations for the Iraq war, campaigners said today.

The former prime minister's company has been paid more than £27 million for advising the oil-rich state on how to run itself, according to reports.

They led to calls for him to hand back the money amid accusations he is cashing in on his decision to take Britain into Iraq in 2003 — although a spokesman dismissed the figure as “complete invention”.

A Stop the War coalition spokesman said: “There really should be a law against a former Prime Minister who took us into a war becoming extremely wealthy as a result of that war.”

Mr Blair's spokesman said: “The fees are nowhere remotely near that sum and they were in respect of a full-time team of people hired for the project over several years.
