Source: The Hindu

The Chinese government has for the first time officially revealed that it has launched a programme to build an aircraft carrier, an already widely-known project that has recently stirred debate over China’s naval intentions and capabilities.

A report released this year by the State Oceanic Administration said China’s progress had even been quicker than expected, with the first Chinese-made carrier set to be ready in 2014, a year ahead of the schedule.

3. It would not surprise me if they did.
They could build the structure and we would just outfit the hardware. After all, all those union ship builders are destroying America.

5. Are you not the one who post that China can make anything they want to order?
It all depends on the amount of money and skill you want used on it. Now you are saying they are a bunch of fuck ups?

6. umm no, I am the person who uses a coffee maker as an example
of something that china can perpetually fuck up. China makes walmart trash and plastic dog shit. If you want a reactor pressure vessel or a turbofan you do NOT buy that from china.

Can you buy a Chinese regulator for scuba? if you could, would you?

10. But they are not working at those plants. Westinghouse and GE
do not source any parts from china, last i saw (been a while). I know for SURE no naval propulsion components are made there.

12. I'm reading they source a lot of the components but they don't have
intellectual rights on them.

They are knock offs of the French reactors.

13. Westinghouse sold them the AP1000 but not the design.
they had to put up lots of cash as Westinghouse knew they would commie clone it.

No us reactors are using chinese parts in the loop.

9. The Bath Yard doesn't build Aircraft Carriers.
In fact, they never have.

All the Carriers in the US fleet these days are built in Newport News, VA.

11. I am aware bath does not build aircraft carriers. "bath built"
was a compliment of a vessel.

8. They can build all the Aircraft Carriers they want.....
Understanding how to properly operate them, including safe and coordinated flight deck operations is a learned skill that has taken the US literally decades to perfect. And we do have it pretty much down pat.

We have been operating them for something like 70 years. That kind of experience isn't replicated just by simply building the boat and putting airplanes and a crew on it.

14. There are only two types of combatant naval vessels
Submarines and targets. Aircraft carriers are an anachronism in today's ocean-going environment.
