UN mulls internet regulation options
Source: IT News

The United Nations is considering whether to set up an inter-governmental working group to harmonise global efforts by policy makers to regulate the internet.

Establishment of such a group has the backing of several countries, spearheaded by Brazil.

At a meeting in New York on Wednesday, representatives from Brazil called for an international body made up of Government representatives that would to attempt to create global standards for policing the internet - specifically in reaction to challenges such as WikiLeaks.

This is very dangerous and must be stopped.

1. Internet police?
Is it even possible to monitor the net on a wide scale? I didn't think it was. I'm no expert on the subject, but wouldn't that require a really massive effort?

2. The UN couldn't save Tokyo from Godzilla even with
Perry Mason there to help. (how's that for an obscure reference?)

I'm beginning to agree with the US out of the UN, UN out of the US folks.

And what's up with Brazil? That surprises me.

3. We need a new way to communicate that cannot be controlled. I do not know if possible.
Or the removal of all parties that hold the power on these decisions.

4. And so it begins...
I fear that major multinational corps together with their puppet governments (yes including the US) are working feverishly behind the scenes to grab control (ie monopoly/money) of all content on the internet. Many of us sit idly by and think that perhaps some day we will 'have to do something' about it. By then it will be too late. Sites like Democratic Underground will be suspiciously hard to log on to and load up, their bandwidth squeezed tight, while the FOX News site will run at rocket speeds. Also with people charged for every minute or amount of bandwidth it will discourage the average layperson to do independent research on political topics...if they can even log onto any sites giving an alternative viewpoint to the MSM that is.

In fact 74 Democratic Members of Congress have decided to fight against Net Neutrality. ???!!!

Let them know what you think of this

People have to wake up and start fighting this now as hard as the corps are fighting for complete dominance.

7. If govts regulate the internet, the citizens of the world will never be
able to know about govt criminal activities. Too many firewalls, not enough democracy.

8. In the meantime, start learning about secure VPNs and Tor now.
Because that's one of the few ways you're likely to get around this crap without stopping it before it begins.
