Iran hangs opposition group members
Source: Al Jazeera

Iran has hanged 11 people with alleged connections to a Sunni Muslim opposition group that killed 39 people in a mosque bombing.

The Justice Ministry said on Monday that those executed were all supporters of Jundollah, which claimed a double suicide bombing of Shia worshippers in the southeast on December 15.

"The people of Sistan-Baluchestan province, in their continuing campaign against the elements of cruelty and insecurity, hanged 11 people at Zahedan prison," the ministry said in a statement on the semi-official Fars news agency.

Iran has said that Jundollah members, who say they are fighting for the rights of the ethnic-minority Baluch people, find shelter across Iran's southeastern border with Pakistan.

2. yep. guess the imadikonajag & religious fundie crowd had to relieve their pent up execution frenzy,
with an orgasm of death - which wouldn't hit an international hot button. unlike, of course, their so-far frustrated attempt at stoning Sakineh Ashtiani.

3. Settle down kiddo
Iran's a big country, just like America. Without commenting on whether the executed where tried fairly or not, this is a provincial issue.

If I were to name one practice on DU that was guaranteed to incense me utterly, it would be the passionate and seemingly innocent appropriation of a thread for a disconnected agenda.

The two cases have only one similarity; the occur in Iran. Please show a little dignity and restraint and allow this thread to progress without diversion or distraction.

4. sure thing, old man. i'll pass on and you can chew on your wad,
and deliberate this particular issue with all the judicial dignity & impartiality you can derive from a news report. far be it from me, to blow on your joss stick & fan the flames of your righteous ire at internet posters, rather than the institution of institutionalized murder itself. knock yourself out.

8. Is there really no relationship between the two incidents?
Don't they both speak to issues with Iran's system of justice?

9. as an american
it makes me very very upset to hear other countries lock people up for seemingly arbitrary reasons, or practice capital punishment at all, and my opinion about these things matters greatly.
