Richardson reflects on his 8 years: Governor says he's leaving state more 'dynamic'
Source: The New Mexican

A former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a roving diplomatic troubleshooter, a former congressman and a one-time energy secretary, Richardson has spent little time outside the limelight over the past couple of decades.

And once his term is over at the stroke of midnight on Jan. 1, he plans to establish a center in his name that will be dedicated to improving diplomacy with difficult regimes around the world, peacemaking and hostage rescues.

He said he's excited about the prospect of continuing his diplomatic work, but he's also proud of what he has been able to accomplish as governor.

3. Overall, Richardson did a very good job governing a very troubled state
He will be remembered as a champion of progressive causes, working families, and small business. He had a good record on women's issues, the environment, labor, etc. and worked hard to improve the economy of a desperately poor state.

One of his notable achievements has been to bring millions of film industry dollars into the state. See the latest example of that here:

4. Thanks for posting this, since
my Santa Fe New Mexican paper didn't arrive this morning.

I've called the circulation office, but since it was already after 9 by the time I got up and looked outside to not find it, I don't have much hope I'll get a copy delivered today. Sigh.

5. Had the opportunity
to get to know Gov. Richardson during the campaign. I worked for him in Iowa. He impressed me quite a lot, I sure wish he was sitting in the big chair in DC right now :/

6. Well, he was a decidedly mixed blessing, but he'll definitely be missed.
He was the only Goob in recent times who could actually get the lege to do any work. Susana's in for a rough ride.

Considering what he had to work with, he did pretty well. Managed to tow us another few inches toward the twentieth century, anyway.

philosophically,
Bright
