Protesters at Beale AFB Decry Treatment of Manning
Source: Miami Herald

Peace groups outside the main gate of Beale Air Force Base on Wednesday protested the treatment of the private suspected of handing secret reports over to WikiLeaks.

They also called on military personnel at the base to resist war and the use of drones.

Protesters from Veterans for Peace, CodePINK and other groups asked for "basic constitutional principles and human rights" be extended to Pfc. Bradley Manning.

Manning is suspected of downloading thousands of secret reports and diplomatic cables and handing them over to WikiLeaks.

7. No ...but I think it might help to send it anyway ... we could also send it to him c/o White House?
Stuff like that?

But we have to find the address ... and especially at a time when we

still have posters here -- getting close to the New Year now ..

12. He can only get mail from people on his approved list,
therefore all mail must be taken to him by someone on that list when they visit him. You can send letters to this address and they will deliver them to Bradley -

3. Crime and Punishment
Do the crime (no matter how noble) and you will do the time.

When you reveal secrets about a monster - do not expect the monster to sit back and take it.

I support what PFC Manning did - but with any civil disobedience, there comes a price.

4. In the last days and weeks I haven't read a single post recommending his release.
"Do the crime (no matter how noble) and you will do the time."

No one yet has advocated his release. Many, however, are calling for humane treatment while he is receiving his punishment.

Do you think the protesters should go away and let the PTB treat Manning any way they wish?
Is that the rightful price of civil disobedience?

9. "Obedience" to laws ... even if they are unjust -- and most of all don't question them!!....
Edited on Thu Dec-30-10 11:59 AM by defendandprotect
Obedience is something the right wing loves to teach --

and, imo, they do it thru authoritarian hierarchies --

organized patriarchal religion being one major way --

It sets people up not only to accept authority over them, unquestioned ...

but to imitate it -- as in, authority/violence//bullying is the way to

respond to most problems!!

.... imo -- !!

MY BEST WISHES TO ALL FOR PEACE AND LOVE IN THE NEW YEAR !!

10. Dude... he isn't charged with anything. He is SUSPECTED. Do you remember the "innocent until
proven guilty" cause for action in the rule of law?

He is being framed and held as a scapegoat and tortured to
help them go after Assange.
But they are not connected at all. WikiLeaks is set up so no
one knows who the leakers are,
so please, don't spread the lies. This man needs to be
released until charged.

19. I don't think so. There is no proof yet. Lamo said he did it. Tortured, he might have said he
did it, but the chat logs at wired, which are supposed to be
the evidence of him admitting that
he leaked information to someone has not been released. Why
is that?

20. It doesn't matter if you don't think he's been charged. He's been charged.
The link to the charges I gave you is at his defense group's website.

18. Hell on earth defined:
Become a whistleblower who disseminates parts of the truth, expect to be tortured and killed.
Toe the line and you'll be fine.

Simple. Nothing to make a big stink about, right?

6. Very, very stupid protesters that don't understand the difference
between the Army, the Air Force and the Marines.

It would be Soooo inconvenient to go to Virginia or find an Army post. Next time I want to protest the UK, I'll just go to the Ukraine Embassy - after all, they are all embassies, right?

MORANS!

11. I doubt that they did not understand the differences between the branches. Manning is
resisting a systemic ill that includes all branches doing the bidding of our transnational masters.

BTW, I kindly suggest that you consider re-thinking any assessment that beings with "Very, very stupid . . . ," especially(!!) when it comes to actual activists out there doing something besides pounding a keyboard. Whatever your rhetorical objectives, they are not served by assuming that people are "Very, very stupid". They may have adopted a strategy you have not recognized yet. They may have information you don't have, or they may just simply see things from a different perspective, one that does not necessarily exclude your perspective if you don't make them do so by insulting them. And, even if they are in fact stupid, an effective solution to their stupidity is less likely to evolve out of a ground of social discourse that is predicated upon the poison of personal insults.

There are, after all, more functionally effective and less damaging ways to identify and relate to human shortcomings, theirs and YOURS, that is, of course, IF you are interested in that sort of thing.

It is run by the same government holding Manning.
