The California Highway Patrol’s traffic website reported toppled trees throughout Los Angeles County, including along the 710 Freeway, and the interchanges of the 110 and 101, and 5 and 101 freeways.

Downed power lines have left thousands without power.

Here are some strong wind gusts clocked overnight.

Whitaker Peak: 81 mph

Pyramid Lake: 61 mph

Castiac Lake: 75 mph

Warm Springs: 75 mph

San Fernando: 71 mph

Santa Clarita: 61 mph

2. Winds are increasingly a problem here in NJ ....
About 7-8 years ago a young girl was killed in the school courtyard having

lunch -- despite that "wind" warnings had been reported, kids were allowed

to eat outside that day. A tree limb fell.

Since then, all of our trees are getting severely pruned --

"We had to burn the village to save it!"

16. It is very warm in the eastern Canadian Arctic right now
Sunday's high for the capital of the region is forecast to be 0 degrees Celsius, which is 21 de gees warmer than the normals for this time. That would be 35 de gees warmer than usual in Fahrenheit.

I know you aren't a global warming denier. I am just emphasizing the fact that a focus on temporary conditions in heavily populated regions of the world is misleading as far as making conclusions about global warming is concerned.

17. "Weather Channel" cable warned of "unusual perhaps hurricane force winds over LA earlier today...
They warned of Tornadoes, also. Having tornadoes at this time of year would seem unusual for the Middle of the Country. It's interesting the weather we are having the past few years...but this Holiday Season in particular.

I check Weather Underground a good bit and Dr. Masters on the sight speaks now of "cyclonic action" on the East Coast. First time I'd ever seen that phrase used. But, I remember for years growing up and on that most fronts moved from West Coast to East Coast.

These days we have odd "cyclonic disturbances" that appear off the East Coast that Combine with West Coast Action. And over the Summer we had a reverse of years past where fronts would move from East Coast to the Middle of the Country.

There's definitely something afoot that's different.

:hi:

What is a "cyclonic action"?

Should we be preparing for doom?
