Secret Service: Oakdale Inmate Sent Letter Threatening to Kill President

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - An Iowa prison inmate has been indicted for making threats against the president.

Documents unsealed Friday in U.S. District Court in Southern Iowa says 23-year-old Tommy Krueger threatened in a December letter to a U.S. marshal in Montgomery, Ala., that he was going to kill Barack Obama and then the Iowa governor after his release. The complaint says Krueger reiterated the threats in a subsequent interview with a Secret Service investigator.

Iowa prison records show Krueger has been in the Iowa Medical & Classification Center in Coralville since 2009. He is serving a five-year sentence for third-degree burglary but is expected to be released in March.

4. Admittedly, I am not familiar with corrections in Iowa

but I'm thinking an institution called, "Medical & Classification Center" ain't your run of the mill prison. I think Mr. Krueger has some serious mental health issues, is receiving treatment for them and will continue to receive the treatment he requires.

Oakdale is the men's receiving facility for the state - offenders go there prior to being assigned to a regular prison. It also is one of the prisons where mentally ill inmates are placed.
