Controversial billboard focuses on African-American abortions
Source: CNN

New York (CNN) -- A billboard has sparked controversy in New York after an anti-abortion group erected a sign focused exclusively on African-American abortion rates.

The sign -- which was paid for by an organization called Life Always -- reads: "The most dangerous place for an African-American is in the womb."

The billboard -- located roughly a half mile from a Planned Parenthood facility in Manhattan's Soho neighborhood -- features an African-American girl.

"They're attacking women for choosing abortion while simultaneously destroying family planning," said spokeswoman Mary Alice Carr for the New York-based National Institute for Reproductive Health. "Their hypocrisy is as large and as obnoxious as this billboard."

Sheesh, more stupid emotional appeal BS to distract from real issues affecting African-Americans such as poverty, unemployment, inequality, education, etc. Last year about similar billboards in Atlanta.

3. Actually the most dangerous place for an African Amerian is a COURTROOM
they are 10 times more likely to be sent to jail than a white person for the same crime

that a study had come out of how honesty was perceived in the court when people testify. This was done by having people of different races, ages, genders react identically from a script in mock court situations and they people in the audience would rate them for honesty as if they were the jury.

They were even sworn in by a law professor acting as the judge, if I remember correctly, just to get people to be as honest as possible.

The result was that white men were perceived to be essentially honest.
Teens were perceived to be less honest.
Women were perceived to be less honest.
Hispanic people were perceived to be less honest.
Black people were perceived to be the least honest.

Combining these factors, Teen, black women were seen as lying more often than anyone else. They were seen as the most dishonest compared to others.

Again, this was not because of actually being dishonest. They were all saying and doing the same thing, using a script. This was simply because they were young, black, and female.

I heard about this while I was an Undergrad in Buffalo, but I don't know if this study came from the University at Buffalo or not. I'm trying to find it.

5. Going waaaay out on a limb here...
Don't need to, but what the hell... I'm not getting enough abuse in my life.

Abortion services are more important in any group with a higher-than-average poverty rate. Poor women need abortion services at least as much as others.

In the past, one of the paranoid delusions in the African American community was that Planned Parenthood and the white man generally wanted to control AA population thru abortion. (African Americans are as subject to delusions as anybody else.)

African American women, like all women, must know that the most dangerous thing they can do economically is to have a baby. (I didn't come up with that, my hero Elizabeth Warren did.) For poor AA women, it's even more dangerous. It means their chances to move up the socio-economic ladder are virtually dead.

Being male, these decisions are not mine to make, but as a society, it's important for all of us to defend the right for women to chose, and to make the service possible throughout the country.

As long as abortion is legal, we should fund it for women who can't afford it.

8. Disagree that AA are "as subect to delusions as anybody else" ... they and most
other oppressed minorities -- homosexuals -- people of color in general --

women -- "get it" before the rest of us re the scams.

However, agree it is dangerous for AA couples to have children -- given the intense

abuse meted out to their children and their communities -- so many without jobs --

so many targeted and imprisoned!!

6. How old is that girl?
six to eight year old? Too old to be a fetus, to young to get an abortion. What's she even doing on the billboard?

7. That sign is on the highway near my house, outside the state capital
but it says "some children" and shows a cute white girl. I always think, Yes, at least half of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, many before the mother knows she's pregnant. Very dangerous place, the womb.

I wonder why these groups don't care about miscarriage?

wouldn't want those African American women to have any control over their lives or bodies, now would we. Just can't have that. :sarcasm:

After all, those Power of Forcing Our Religion people onto those African American women's bodies Really Care about African American fetuses. :sarcasm:

(And to heck with, you know, actually caring about justice, equality, or quality of life for actual, already living African American women, or any woman, for the matter of that!) :sarcasm:

Gag. The agenda of the Our Religion Gives Us the Right to Opress Others movement is SO transparent.

I wish more people would see that this fight is not about the Right to Life versus the Right to Choose. It is about the (supposed) right of (some) people to force the rest of us to goose-step to their religious beliefs and practices. :scared:
