Libyan ambassador in Jordan defects to join uprising

Amman - Libyan Ambassador to Amman Mohammad Bargathi on Thursday announced that he was defecting from the government of Moamer Gaddafi to protest the military crackdown on Libyan citizens.

'In view of the current developments in Libya, I have decided to quit my post as an ambassador,' he said in a statement.

'I also decided to be in my natural position among the revolting citizens,' he added.

A Jordanian Air Force plane on Thursday brought home more than 80 Jordanians working in Libya as part of emergency flights that have been arranged over the past few days to evacuate thousands of Jordanians living in Libya.
