US rejects Aussie firefighters
Two Australian firefighters have criticised United States officials for not allowing them to take up lucrative work contracts in Iraq.

A fireman from Western Australia, who has asked to remain anonymous, says he and his colleague have applied for firefighting contracts at coalition bases in Iraq.

He says the pay on offer was double his annual wage after tax.

But the firefighter says the two have been told they are unable to work in Iraq because they are not US citizens.

"If the military can work with them side by side with no worries and at the end of the day fire services are pretty much you get the wet stuff and put it on the hot stuff, it doesn't really change that much," the firefighter said.
