Pakistan may not allow Americans access to Osama bin Laden's relatives
Pakistani authorities say they will not allow America automatic access to relatives of Osama bin Laden detained after Sunday's raid on his fortified compound, in the latest symptom of a fractured relationship between the two allies in the war on terror.

By Rob Crilly, Islamabad 1:15AM BST 05 May 2011

It means the two countries face an awkward custody battle for the terrorist leader’s wife and children.

Up to three women and nine children are currently in Pakistani detention. It is understood they are being held at a medical facility in Rawalpindi.

A senior intelligence source told The Daily Telegraph that any request from US officials would not be granted yet.

“We will not allow access until such time as we have, in writing, from their country of origin, a letter saying yes we can grant access to the Americans,” he said.

7. The US troops may have been at the weight limit for helicopters
After loading Osama, his thumb-drives, and his porn collection. Gotta have priorities when weight's an issue.

No room for wives.

I am wondering more and more whether Pakistan's Islamic militancy is just a way to shake down all kinds of countries, sort of an extortion scheme.

Someone there was protecting Bin Laden. His continued existence meant lots of cash from the US to the Pakistani military. This is true of the other members and supporters of Al Qaeda.

We paid Pakistan a king's ransom just to get them to "cooperate" with our anti-terrorism efforts. And there was the one man that Americans were seeking more than any other -- in a large complex surrounded by a 9-foot wall within a relatively short distance of a hospital and a military installation.

I have read that Pakistan caught a large number of terrorists. What proof do we have that those they caught were really terrorists and not simply political opponents? What do we ordinary Americans know about what goes on in a country like Pakistan?

I have a problem with this. And I am shocked that we spent so much tax money supporting Pakistani governments in recent years.

Meanwhile our infrastructure is failing, our schools and working Americans are impoverished and the Republicans are ogling the Social Security and Medicare surpluses that were amassed at great sacrifice by low income Americans.

I can't suggest an alternative, but we need to ask some questions about this strategy.
