30. Yes! How DID that ever happen?
How did a member of one of this countries greatest Democratic families ever end up marrying a greedy, conservative, right wing, neo-Nazi Repuke? What was she thinking? I realize he gave lots of money to help save the animals at one of California's wild animal sanctuarys, but he only did it as a means of stroking his own huge ego. While he uncaringly drove all around the fragile eco system of the golden State, behind the wheel of one of his 12 mobile environmental disasters, also known as Hummers. But the worst part of it all is that he actually (on more than one occasion) begat human life on this planet that will probably end up living on in his slimy image. Coming to you from one of his biggest fans.....not.

32. At first I thought --
it may have been abusive -- seriously!

But seemed kind of silly cause she certainly had a strong family

to help her if she needed it.

Personally, I think he's so absolutely repulsive I can't image even standing

next to him.

But -- his pictures certainly made tons of money!!

So -- what do I know!!

Arnold was a better actor than a politician, too. And it's a free country, if their relationship is falling apart it is what it is. And they have two teenage children, I wish that they can overcome this and still be on good terms with their parents.

29. Oh Yes! One of the best in all of Hollywood.
I heard that according to the contract of his latest film, he is now up to learning five (count 'em) lines of dialog. And he has also learned how to throw his voice so that no one can detect his "east" coast accent anymore. I guess comparing that with his stint as a politician, I can see your point. Remember his HUGE ego when he was campaigning to overthrow Gary Davis? Remember how he stroked it and preened it in front of the TV cameras? How he said how easy it was going to be to whip the state back into shape? And how he was going to 'terminate' all of the state's problems? Guess what? His protoege is now doing the same thing, only on the national level. Now lets have a big hand everyone for Arnold Trump.

18. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver announce separation
Source: Los Angeles Times

Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife, Maria Shriver, have separated, with Shriver moving out of their Brentwood mansion while the two determine the next step in their 25-year marriage.

Shriver has been residing apart from the actor-turned-politician for the last few weeks. The former first couple confirmed the separation in a joint statement released Monday after questions from The Times.

"This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us," the statement read. "After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship.

Photos: A political marriage with star power

"We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives. We consider this a private matter and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have further comment. We ask for compassion and respect from the media and the public."

33. He Was Doing A Lot Of Pumping
Edited on Tue May-10-11 01:19 PM by chatnoir
was the title of a blind item yesterday (and note accompanying photo):

"The breakup of this long-married Hollywood power couple may come as a surprise to some. It hasn’t just been his flip-flopping between careers in the past few years that’s put a strain on their relationship. He’s also been flip-flopping among several women.

His wife won’t have to grope around too hard to find the dirty details. It’s been common knowledge among his colleagues for years that this dude would pump anything with a vajayjay while he was married… including an actress approximately 20 years his junior and a voluptuous female staff member."

34. Too late.
But the damage has already been done… She helped make him more palatable to even (too many) Democrats during the recall/election. Plus… I believe he was actually an underlying reason for the recall. When Republican operatives saw the low turnout numbers in the 2002 gubernatorial election-- and the low approval ratings (much of that courtesy of the damage Enron, etc., did to our state) for Davis—they knew they had the ability to gather enough signatures (the number required is based on turnout in the previous election) for a recall vote. A couple of operatives have even admitted that the recall idea came to them in November, 2002, right after his reelection, since they could see “success” was possible—democracy and elections be damned. And I think, all along, they hoped to slip in Maria’s husband (who wouldn’t have made it through a primary, given the radical rightwingedness of the CA Republican party), assuming (correctly) his Star Power (and Kennedy connection) could carry the day, and put a Republican back in the governor’s seat.

There was much less time for the usual vetting: the Sec. of State verified a sufficient number of valid recall petition signatures on July 23, 2003; the next day, the Lt. Gov. said the recall vote would be held on Oct. 7th; on August 6th, Maria’s husband announced he was running; and the coup/install a new leader vote occurred two months later. Leno and Oprah gave their friends a huge (free) forum during the “campaign” (which was more like a tour to promote a movie)… and it was all so EXCITING… and poor Davis just didn’t have the charisma to fight all that media hype and frenzy-- and relentless, free publicity. (And let’s not forget the pivotal role played by the wealthy Republican Darrell Issa, who bankrolled the recall drive, apparently under the delusion HE would be the next governor.)

And doncha just love how the Republicans HATE any Hollywood celebrities with a political opinion (“Sbut Up and Sing!”), except when they are busy drooling over (and trying to elect!) whatever inexperienced, incompetent REPUBLICAN Hollywood celebrity they can scrape up?

Plus, there is this:
http://www.salon.com/news/politics/republican_party/index.html?story=/politics/war_room/2011/04/28/arnold_amendment_foreign_born

Arnold was raised by a NAZI (which made the father, at one time, an actual enemy of our country): http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/2003-08-24-arnold-father_x.htm

Obama met his father only once (over a two week period when he was in 5th grade in Hawaii) after his parents split up when he was a toddler:
http://www.newsweek.com/2008/08/22/on-his-own.html

To summarize:

If you are born and raised in another country (that has been at war with the US) by a Nazi father (a one time enemy of the US)-- and have achieved the fame and power that you have achieved because of a body that was (admittedly) enhanced by steroids (War on Drugs anyone?), and are a known serial cheater (Family Values, anyone?)-- Republicans will (in a dangerous and cynical manipulation of the political process) mount a recall effort to remove an actual American (Bronze Star) veteran (who has JUST been reelected to a second term) in order to put you in power… and even try to get the Constitution changed so you can be president! (As long as you are a Republican- especially an Aryan -- they don't care where you were born or who you father was…. not to mention whether you have abused drugs or repeatedly committed adultery.)

On the other hand... If you are a black man, though raised almost entirely by a white mother and white grandparents (including the grandfather who was your main father figure-- a man who served in the US military in WWII on OUR side, not as a Nazi storm trooper)... and were born in THIS country... and only spent four years (ages 6-10) in Indonesia, while otherwise being raised entirely in THIS country... and you only saw your African father ONCE in your life after you were a toddler, and never even visited Kenya (a country that was not an enemy of the US in two World Wars) until you were an adult (and your father was already dead)... you can NEVER be considered a legitimate president because you are BLACK and NOT a Republican. (Well, just being a Democrat, as Bill Clinton can attest, is enough to make you illegitimate as president, but the Black/African heritage means you aren’t even a “natural born” citizen—but no one will be proposing any constitutional amendments on your behalf…)

I think Maria hoped to get another Kennedy (sorta) in the White House… or, at least, another Kennedy in the Senate. (Don’t need the amendment for that one.) When she realized her husband’s disastrous legacy as governor would preclude either of those possibilities, she decided to bail. (Obviously, I’m just guessing about any motivations behind the separation, but I do hold her partially accountable for the mess we are in, since I don’t think he could have become governor without her.)

Sorry for the rant. I am still bitter about that recall...

36. Nailed it!
I could not believe how easily this state dumped Gray Davis and the circus atmosphere that followed that stupid recall. Yeah, I'm still bitter about it, too! And I'm convinced that Maria and her family helped soften up a lot of independents/moderate democrats to vote for Ah-nold. In fact, I remember some very liberal democrats justifying his election by arguing that he had adoped a lot of the Kenndy family's socially liberal positions.

I'm sorry to see the break-up of this family, but I just never understood what she saw in the big dope. Now we await word of the Carville/Matilin separation....

35. I remember watching her at the GOP convention in 2004, where she was seated
Edited on Tue May-10-11 03:54 PM by calimary
in the bush 1 family box seats with her kids, who were a little unruly (they were quite young and fidgety at that age), while their dad addressed the convention. And she looked incredibly uncomfortable. Probably felt like she was in enemy territory, and completely surrounded. She looked REALLY uncomfortable and not at all happy to be there in that alien world (especially to a member of the Kennedy clan, who'd otherwise have NO reason whatsoever to attend a GOP convention)! I thought - there she is trying to support her husband and she's probably well-aware that some of these assholes were gonna make political use of her being there and use it as a weapon against HER party of choice. I know I would have felt that way - marooned in hostile territory, surrounded by people who wanted nothing more than to undo every last scrap of her uncles' legacy!
