U.S. forces shoot Iraqi woman after bomb attack
We can't leave now. Right? Right...

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/4865908.htm

BAGHDAD, Aug 2 (Reuters) - An Iraqi woman was killed when U.S. forces opened fire in Baghdad after a bomb was thrown at their convoy, a military spokeswoman said on Saturday.

She said a bomb was dropped from an overpass on a six- vehicle 1st Armoured Division convoy on Friday evening.

"Soldiers opened fire in self-defence," she said. "An Iraqi woman was nearby and she was killed."

The spokeswoman had no information on whether the victim was suspected of involvement in the attack.

1. This is not the first time our troops fire wildly in every direction
and kill civilians having nothing to do with the original attack. The British press has reported similar incidents in which GIs shoot in every direction.

There is a lack of command and control on the ground, or these guys had no training whatsoever in how to operate in an urban environment.

What was the line in "Full Metal Jacket" about "gooks"? If they run, they are VC, if they stand still, they are a well-disciplined VC.

5. This is spiraling out of control

If I was an Iraqi guy who was related to this women, and the local chapter of the Iraqi Armed Resistance came calling I would join up in a minute. Even if I had no nationalistic tendencies and really didn't want to join, family honor would force me to do so anyway.

9. Exactly, it's that sort of thing that creates ‘terrorists.’
Believe you me, if that happened to me, I'd become a ‘terrorist’ in a heartbeat. And I believe anyone with strong family ties would.

8. Yep that was the line...
..........when asked how could you shoot women and children the door gunner replied "simple you don't lead them as much." The movie did a nice job of showing how war drags all participants down into never ending descending levels of barbarity.
This whole thing is becoming more disgusting and repellent by the day, but it is what those of is who opposed the war warned against. It is just this type of senseless slaughter of young men and women and the inevitable retributory atrocity that the PNAC madmen who engineered this should be held accountable for in an international criminal tribunal since they started the illegal war they so desperately wanted.

7. Interesting that they used a spokeswoman
I wonder if there's some propaganda theory behind that decision.

11. I kind of predicted that
The theory went on: In the end the US will build settlements on the oil fields and wall in the population. They'll just extract the oil and shoot at anything that comes near thier settlements and bomb anything threatening that seems to develope in the rest of the territories.

That is of coarse if Americans allow that to happen in thier name.
