Reel Grrls rejects Comcast funding after Twitter spat
Source: The Hill

The Seattle-based nonprofit Reel Grrls is rejecting funding from Comcast after a spat over a tweet that was critical of the company.

A Comcast official in Washington state told Reel Grrls it would lose its $18,000 in funding after the group sent out a negative tweet about the company's decision to hire someone away from the Federal Communications Commission.

The tweet questioned Comcast's decision to hire FCC Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker, who voted to allow the merger of Comcast and NBC Universal earlier this year.

“OMG! @FCC Commissioner Baker voted 2 approve Comcast/NBC merger & is now lving FCC for A JOB AT COMCAST?!?” Reel Grrls tweeted.

Here is an important story that exposes the powerful level of corporate censorship that goes on behind the scenes. The question is how often would a non-profit ignore corporate funding, and call out the demands of a corporate sponsor in trying to control content?

Remember, Reel Grrls is a website designed to empower independent female film makers, and Comcast was threatening to withdraaw funding because Reel Grrls dared to complain about a Republican FCC commissioner who supported Comcast's acquisition of media propertiers turning around and working for Comcast. The Nerve!!!

2. Of Course, This Example of Corporate Censorship Will Largely Be Ignored By The Corporate Media
You also have to keep in mind that this case involves a non-profit. How do you think Fox News, ABC, or CBS react when one of their sponsors starts to dictate how the news should appear?

Do you think that these corporate media entities would do what Real Grrls did and turn down the money?
