Gunshots, Looting Reported in Mpls.
Source: Fox9 Twin Cities

by Leif Knutson / FOX 9 News
Rescue and cleanup crews are being protected by Minneapolis Police on the north side of the city as a curfew is in effect. There were also reports of gunfire and looting in storm-damaged sections of the north side Sunday.
The city of Minneapolis has issued a Curfew, effective from 9 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday for areas between I-94, Penn, Plymouth, and Dowling Avenues.
Residents are told to stay in their homes during that time — and not enter the perimeter if they are outside.
Police Chief Tim Dolan, who’s been with the department for nearly 30 years, claims this is the first curfew he has seen in the city.

Leave it to Fuxnews to play up what's most likely an isolated incident or two. North Mpls is largley a minority community and this fits right in to their agenda.

1. I'd never heard anything negative about MN until the evil GOP had their 2008 convention there.
They blight every place they go.

4. Well they did have a store owner on who said he was cleaned out. Money,
shelves emptied, liquor, cigarettes. Sad for the decent people that live their.

They have their hands full fighting shootings in their neigborhood, and now they're victimized twice.

5. Keep in mind that in Minnesota you can't buy booze on Sunday
And if I'd survived a storm like that I might be tempted to "borrow" a jug or 2 of whiskey from a blown out store.

7. Sensible people keep adequate supplies of everything they need on hand in case of disasters
Edited on Mon May-23-11 02:41 AM by slackmaster
There's no excuse for anyone to do any looting in that area now. Anyone who does is just a criminal.

8. Sensible people would keep adequate supplies if they could afford "adequate supplies"
Your attempt to smear people living in a poor area falls short of the mark. Attempting to use a "news" item as an opportunity to pass a conspicuous racist slur isn't completely "sensible."

10. You are rationalizing poor planning
Keeping 2-3 days worth of non-perishable food and water on hand is not out of reach of any but the poorest of the poor.

That is all I have to say about it.

6. Huh - Vikings are now reporting news - "Leif Knutson"
I am in MN and grew up here and have told my share of Sven and Ole jokes. I went to school with Larsons, Johnsons, Swansons etc but even I had to laugh at the name Leif Knutson - any bets he cried Uffda when he saw the damage?

Course we also have a Sven Sundgaard reporting on the weather - local talent, you betcha.

I live a bit north of N Mpls and slept through the damn tornado.

N Mpls can get a little hostile though so I wouldn't completely discount some problems.

9. This NON-FOX article clearly says the reports of looting are FALSE.
I took the liberty of looking beyond your Fox post, and found the following:

Minneapolis mayor says crews assessing damage from tornado

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak says city crews are clearing debris block by block and tallying the number of homes damaged by a tornado that killed one person and injured 29 others Sunday.

By: Associated Press, INFORUM

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak says city crews are clearing debris block by block and tallying the number of homes damaged by a tornado that killed one person and injured 29 others Sunday.

Speaking at a storm-damaged neighborhood early Monday morning, Rybak said reports of widespread looting are false. The mayor says one liquor store was looted right after the tornado hit and there were a few burglaries overnight, but nothing widespread.
