More job layoffs at Siemens Dematic

(Grand Rapids, April 14, 2004, 6:20 p.m.) Officials at Siemens Dematic have announced layoffs throughout the country, including West Michigan.

The manufacturer says it is eliminating 121 jobs, 43 of which will be office positions at the facility in Grand Rapids. Fifty-six of the layoffs will take place immediately. The 43 positions are of the white collar variety...people in marketing, financing and human resources.

These aren't the first layoffs at Siemens Dematic. In January, the company let go 50 hourly workers and 200 employees were cut in September. Also, in February, 24 Hour News 8 told you that Siemens Dematic officials in India and Germany say most of the company's 15,000 software programming jobs will eventually move from the U.S. and western Europe to India, China and eastern Europe.
