Paul Ryan Confronted By Bible-Wielding Protester Decrying Ayn Rand
Source: Talking Points Memo

Paul Ryan was chased by a protester waving a giant Bible and decrying libertarian author Ayn Rand on his way out of the Faith and Freedom Conference, a social conservative gathering in DC where he delivered a speech on his budget.

"Why did you choose to model your budget on the extreme ideology of Ayn Rand rather than the faith of economic justice in the Bible?" the blond, 20-something male asked. He said he wanted to "present" Ryan with a Bible to teach him how to help the "most vulnerable."

Ryan talked to reporters briefly and signed autographs for fans, largely ignoring the protester.
......................

"Our rights our not given to us from government, our rights are given to us naturally, given by God," he said, adding that "applying these principles" is what keeps America from entering decline each generation.

15. I think just from the left.

That's a leftie. A Christian who actually read the bible, not just select verses.

From a leftie pov?

33. Which direction do you want me to take on this
Providing for the poor?
Periodic debt forgiveness?
Not setting up a system of debt to suck people in?
Not stealing or lying, precluding taking advantage of the less well off or under informed that way?
The clear demand that Christians give away what they possess to charity?
The specific demand that rulers stand tall in protection of the unfortunate, unhealthy, and poor?

As I read it, there's even a fair defensible rational in the bible for communistic living, and evidence the early church did so, prior to becoming a state religion under Constantine. What most Americans perceive to be "Christianity" is a lie that implodes under even the most cursory scrutiny.

Heartless, soulless, self centered, thieves, liars and hypocrites.

Nobody but a damned fool would trust a republican politician.

25. Diebold, SCOTUS and the crooks all over the US who throw the
people's votes in the trash, in order to trash our already fragile American "Democracy," in the name of greed. We have the best "Democracy" the corporations and their propagandists can buy. That's why voting for the candidate left standing at general election time kind of feels like when you think you're about to let a big fart for some relief, but instead you find to your total dismay that you have a case of the explosive dribbling shits.

12. Or just a concerned Christian.
My mother is a pretty serious Christian, and simply doesn't understand how other Christians can vote for Republicans. She's more than old enough to remember that there were a lot of Christian groups working for civil rights, and against unjust wars at one time.

9. Aren't you making a unfounded assumption?
Just because the man had a bible doesn't make him right wing. He sounds like a progressive Christian. You probably think that is a oxymoron but there are plenty out here. Most keep their mouths shut around other liberals and progressives because we get tired of being told that we are fools for believing in God.

I think it's important to make it known to the "religious" masses that Ayn's philosophy of objectivism is not based on any religious ideas.
