Police close Delaware Weiner case

By Bob Fernandez

Inquirer Staff Writer

WILMINGTON - Police have closed an investigation into the online contact between Rep. Anthony Weiner and a 17-year-old Delaware girl who started following the New York Democrat online after a class trip to the nation's capital earlier in the spring.

C.R. McLeod, a spokesman for the New Castle County government, told the Associated Press on Saturday that investigators had concluded their probe and planned no further comment "unless something new arises that needs their attention."

Delaware police spoke with the girl and her mother on Friday, and, according to the girl's Philadelphia lawyer, Daniel P. McElhatton, took the girl's laptop and cellphone for analysis. The girl's family voluntarily handed over the computer and phone, and police did not have a warrant, McElhatton said.

"There was nothing of a sexual nature or any innuendo," McElhatton said of the communications between Weiner and the girl. He previously said in a statement that there was no exchange of photographs between the high school junior and the 46-year-old congressman.

1. I hope he realizes he's dodged a bullet on this one
The truth is that you don't know who you're talking to online, ever, and teenagers love to lie about their ages.

19. Thank God!
Now we can rally behind Weiner. So what if he's a sleaze bag? He's our sleaze bag.

So what if he has the morals of an alley cat and the integrity of a sub-prime mortgage broker? So what if he's a sleaze bag? He's our sleaze bag.

The man can stand up for the little guy while twittering naughty pictures to the little guys collage age daughters. So what if he's a sleaze bag? He's our sleaze bag.

He's been absolved of any wrong doing involving a 17 year old girl. What a great hero! Sure we don't know what would have happened if the crap hadn't hit the fan but hey, she might have been 18 by then! So what if he's a sleaze bag? He's our sleaze bag.

I mean the guy had 45,000 followers on twitter and chose to respond to 198 of them So what if a bunch of them were women under 26 years old and pretty? There's no evidence that he singled out attractive women. None at all. So what if he's a sleaze bag? He's our sleaze bag.

So what if he's been married for less then a year. The 7 year itch is well documented. His just came a little earlier then most. So what if he lied repeatedly until he couldn't get away with it? So what that he was arrogant and rude to the press for asking reasonable questions to the crap he was spewing like a two year who ate a couple of tacos in Tijuana a few hours ago. So what if he's a sleaze bag? He's our sleaze bag.

He's got lots of loyal followers here on DU. Lots of people who place morality, honesty and integrity above politics.

perverts. Calm yourself. Soon he will resign.

32. Pretty impressive case of the vapors, wasn't it?
I hope he hides out in rehab for a couple of weeks and the tabloid press moves on. As sex scandals go, this wasn't much. He didn't even get laid, just talked dirty to a bunch of consenting adults.

Besides, the last thing I want is for a scumbag like Breitbart to win anything. I want him to seethe over it for the rest of his life.

11. And what sort of punishment will Breitbart receive? A weekday primetime talk show on CNN maybe?
And yet self-styled Democrats still promote the Breitbart version of this story, and defend him, his goals, and his methods.

12. What he has done was uncalled for
and not smart at all, that said, the corporate "we live perfect lives" media are going after him like white on rice. Meanwhile, after two and 1/2 half years and all the doctored, changing the e-mails, the crazy nutso, Palin laughs.

It will not stop because the news is on it and the Dems will ask him to step aside. Yes resign. But I hope his fight does not stop. Judge Thomas needs to go. One door closing and another one opens.

He got caught, most of them both Dems and Gopers are running shit scared, but I do want to be around be the OLD SAYING comes to light

"What goes around shall come around in two folds" - to Mr. B and Mr. McK and the rest of the tea brats aka gopers

24. Only because people want that to doom him.
It doesn't have to be that way, but people demand punishment and won't be happy until they get it. This country gets off on judgment and punishment, often to a point that seems more perverse to me than his dick being online. It's some seriously weak sauce.

if he hadn't lied about it. That's what has the left pissed off (could care less about the pearl clutching right). He let people take him at his word and defend him....that's tough to forgive.

39. Tough to forgive, but not impossible.
I defended him at first, too, but I don't feel so angry over his lying that I want him drummed out of town. That's just throwing out the baby with the bathwater. His lying isn't reason enough for me to go along with the torch and pitchfork mob, on the both the right and the left. We demand a pound of flesh, and the intensity of that need is kind of creeping me out more than anything he did.

16. Very Sad
Edited on Sun Jun-12-11 08:13 PM by JJW
Very sad how corporate media poodles are so outraged over a penis photo but, are never to sure about if torture is lawful or whether anyone should be tried for fraud on Wall St, or war crimes, or crimes against humanity, or for polluting our air, water and seas.

I'd like this outrage directed at the climate change deniers and the war profiteers. I'd like to see some outrage about the innocent children that are dying from American aggression. Or how about some outrage over half of all spending going to making weapons.

I've heard many people say this, and I don't quite get it. I think lying goes with the territory given he's married and was doing something smarmy. ;)

28. It's still the shiny object of the week.
Oh, heaven for fend, a politician lying about something. Oh, unreal, a politician involved in a "sex scandal" when there was no sex.

wake me up when this is actually important to the news vacuum.

In the mean time, I'll worry about SS, medicare, medicaid, the wars, no jobs, the crappy economy, etc.

Some guy tweeting his johnson in a banana hammock then lying about it, is the lowest thing on my priority list to the point where it doesn't even make the list.

38. Oh grow up. Every single person on the face of this earth lies.
The average person lies five times a day. All this pearl-clutching about lying makes me sick. Meanwhile, the world is burning and self-righteous, smug people make themselves feel better by shrieking "He's LYING!!!" while clutching their smelling salts.
